Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Your dream player with flawless, true-to-life picture quality and the ability to play virtually any disc! The Philips DVD player delivers your movies and music entertainment experience.

DivX Ultra Certified for enhanced DivX video playback

With DivX® support, you are able to enjoy DivX encoded videos and movies from the Internet, including purchased Hollywood films, in the comfort of your living room. The DivX media format is an MPEG-4 based video compression technology that enables you to save large files like movies, trailers and music videos on media like CD-R/RW and DVD recordable disc for playback on your DivX Ultra Certified® Philips device. DivX Ultra combines DivX playback with great features like integrated subtitles, multiple audio languages, multiple tracks and menus into one convenient file format.

Diagram of Progressive Scan
Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture

12-bit/108 MHz video processing for sharp, natural images

12-bit Video DAC is a superior Digital-to-Analogue Converter that preserves every detail of the authentic picture quality. It shows subtle shades and smoother graduation of colours, resulting in a more vibrant and natural picture. The limitations of the standard 10-bit DAC become particularly apparent when it is used with large screens and projectors.

Progressive Scan component video for optimised image quality

Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, it writes both fields at the same time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure.

Screen Fit for optimal viewing every time

Whatever you're watching, on whatever TV, Screen Fit ensures that the picture fills the whole screen. Annoying black bars on the top and bottom are eliminated, without any tedious manual adjustments to make. Simply press the Screen Fit button, choose the format and enjoy your movie in full screen

Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Link plays video/music from USB flash drives

The Universal Serial Bus or USB is a protocol standard that is conveniently used to link PCs, peripherals and consumer electronic equipment. Hi-Speed USB devices have a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps - up from the 12 Mbps of original USB devices. With Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Link, all you have to do is plug in your USB device, select the movie, music or photo and play away.

One-touch MP3 creation directly from CDs onto USB sticks

Convert the contents of your favourite CDs to MP3 files on your Philips product and store them directly on a thumb drive or on your portable media player through a USB cable. Enjoy the convenience of creating MP3 files right in your living room, without a PC and even while the CD is playing.

My Wallpaper for a personalised welcome screen

Personalise your DVD player's wallpaper with your favourite photo. My Wallpaper lets you upload your favourite photo to be the wallpaper of your Philips DVD player. My Wallpaper works with most photo formats and you can even change the contrast on your uploaded photo to create unique lighting effects. No more boring generic welcome screen when you turn on your DVD player. My Wallpaper is easy to use and fun for everyone.

Just received this player today. Got it out of the box, up and running and region free within minutes.

To make it region free follow these instructions :-

1 Press the button to open the tray
    2 Press the setup button
3 Navigate down the menu to choose the preference page and click ok
4 Press the following numbers 138931 (If done correctly you will have the option to change the region displayed on the screen)
5 Choose Region 0 and click ok.

Great little player that recognised my 16gig USB stick and 250gig External HDD no problem. Please be aware anyone using the USB that your device needs to be formatted to FAT32 and not NTFS or it won't be recognised.

It would have got 5 stars from me if it had a rear USB port for a more permanent feature such as an External HDD.

No issues with noise or loading times here and it played everything I tried but if I must gripe the buttons on the remote are a little clicky and the machine moves about a little when putting the USB stick in. Nothing that should put anyone off buying this and maybe it's not worth mentioning as after all what else would anyone expect from a machine that cost £35? !!

Great DVD player although Amazon are linking it together with a HDMI cable offer which is very misleading as you cannot usea HDMI cable with this product? Thanks guys for wasting my hard earned money!!!!!

Great little player 2 Jun 2010
    Amazon Verified Purchase
Bought this as a replacement for a Toshiba player that didn't like ejecting discs! It also replaces a couple of failed attempts at getting a simple / cheap media player to play DIVX files.

This player fits the bill very well - it's a nice compact DVD player and has a USB port on the front, which is great to plug in a flash drive.

The only slightly frustrating thing is that I can't find any info about what the USB compatibility is. So far I've tried a Lexar 4Gb flash drive and that works fine. It plays all the DIVX files that I've thrown at it yet.

The remote is good and responsive and not as angle dependant as my previous players. It does have a slightly cheap appearance, though, which is a shame as the player looks very sleek.

Overall, I would recommend it highly.

    STOP PRESS!!!

Player died after less than 18 months - total failure. Not impressed and, needless to say, did not replace with a Philips player (Philips refused to fix and the best they offered was a 20% discount code to use on their website - this didn't even bring things down to Amazon prices).
