The Philips DS3205 Lightning Dock is however suitable for Apple Lightning connection. Note the product code!
If I stretch my hand out, it is as wide as the distance between by little finger tip and thumb tip. It has no functionality apart from to amplify the sound from the ipod/iphone but the phone does the rest.
The sound is very good for such a little unit. A nice rounded base sound, obviously nowhere near the quality of a bigger unit but certainly less tinny than many I have heard of this size. It is quite loud at full volume.
A couple of little points. It is quite difficult to see whether the unit is switched on or off in a lit room as the only indication is a very subtle red glow on the - and + volume buttons. When connected to a PC, it will only register the iphone is docked when the power is switched OFF on the dock. This a a bit odd.
It takes batteries but comes with a mains adapter.
The male port is quite prominent and flexible and is also mounted high so it really will take a phone in any case, however chunky.
I am really pleased with this. It is a very welcome addition to my desk and the fact that it does dock with the PC is a definite bonus.
Value for money? I am not sure as it is a little on the pricey side for what it does but I really like it.
I don't have an iPod, so I don't know if I got the best of this, form-wise, but I would note the following. As is often the case with items designed for iPods, it looks as though, if you have one, it will fit snugly into the connector and look good with the speaker.
You can use it however, with a non-Apple mp3 player or computer if you have a cable, such as this: 3.5mm Male Stereo JACK TO JACK Audio Cable 1m Lead. You can also connect a computer using the usb slot on the back. This doesn't take full advantage of the way the speaker looks, but works fine.
The sound is good. At low volumes, the sound is perhaps a bit weak and tinny, but turn the volume up and it performs well.
Decent enough price, too. Recommended.
