Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is a very stylish unit with a high quality of finish, that comes with a stand or can be wall-hung. I was delighted with the appearance - it looks as though it might fly, and avoids the silly styling of some iPod docks. You will need to place it near a mains socket, as the power lead is less than 1.5m long. There is lots of function: iPod playback and charge through a retractable dock; FM and DAB radio; a CD player behind a motorised door; and replay from a USB memory device. All this is controlled by a remote, or by buttons on top of the main unit.

Sound levels are what I would call living room quality -- not enough of a blast for a big party, and not up to genuine hifi standards, but offering excellent clarity, dynamic range and frequency response at moderate volumes. There is a bass boost with a small effect, and some EQ pre-sets (flat/classical/rock/pop/jazz) that also have small effect. The "rock" setting seemed to work well for all kinds of music and speech. iPod playback is easy and my iPod Touch recharged slowly in the dock. The CD player will handle audio or MP3 tracks, and the USB playback was a new one to me. I liked it very much, as I could just copy tracks from my PC to a memory device -- no messing around with iTunes -- and plug it in. The memory device must be formatted to the old FAT standard, as NTFS won't work. There is also a 3.5mm jack point so you can plug in any MP3 player or any device that has a headphone output.

Setting up the radio pre-sets is tricky, and is done in different ways for FM and DAB. I have not yet managed to get this quite right, but radio sound is interference-free on both systems. The only real disappointment is the little blue display panel, which is very low resolution and not up to the design standard of the rest of the unit.

An excellent piece of equipment for the price. Stylish and would go with most decors. Sound quality is supberb, the Iphone/pod and MP3 conectivity work very well. If it has one failing it is the lack of an external Aerial input. Relying on a (rat tail) Aerial for DAB is hopeless in weak signal areas.

This Philips micro HiFi system is sleek and stylish. It can be fixed to the wall or free standing (which is how we are using it). The sound quality is excellent, the DAB radio was crystal clear for us without the aerial. The CD cover has a nice smooth action to it and a drawer slides out for you to dock and charge your Ipod. I like the fact that you can connect a USB stick to play your music through it and I can play my Philips GoGear MP3 player through with a great sound - can even put the different settings for rock, jazz, etc on. Was very happy with it overall.

Wow, the last CD player I bought was just a black box which fits in a stack with the rest of the stereo system - this, to me, looks like something from The Jetsons! I love how it looks!
It comes with screws for wall mounting or it has a plastic base which is easy to just clunk on and it stands steadily on that.
This will be sited in the kitchen, and the stand it comes with makes it easy to clean the surface it stands on.
I'm not into MP3's and iPods [yet] but the CD sound is lovely and clear. It filled the kitchen with clear sound. And I love how the CD lid slides upwards to reveal the CD lens etc.
The radio scanned for channels within minutes and played the one it found first. It sounded clear as a bell - and the aerial was still wound up at that. I have knocked off one star because the aerial is a thin wire rather than a telescopic metal one. I got a clear reception as it was, but I have borne in mind people who may live in a poor reception area - the wire could be a problem for them.
It has a 'deep bass boost' which makes it sound really good. I have had Philips products before and always been happy with them.
I am very pleased with this product.

Philips have put a lot of thought into the appearance of this product, and their claim that it "fits any décor" is not far wrong. It looks good whether wall-mounted or free-standing, although you may find the relatively short power lead a little inconvenient.

It has a lot of functionality (mostly useful, which is not always the case with these new gadgets). You can charge your iPhone or iPod while it plays, using the dock at the front, or connect a portable player to the USB, or you can just connect a USB memory device to play the music on it. I'm not sure if the Digital Sound Control - offering you a choice of pre-set controls, to optimise the frequency ranges for different musical genres - actually makes much of a difference, but it's an interesting idea. Dynamic Bass Boost can emphasize the bass throughout the range of volume settings. A motorized door housing the disc slides vertically up and down, and you can see the disc playing through the transparent window. All good stuff.

The sound quality is very good. Of course, how good the radio sounds depends on where you live. If you are in a good DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) reception area, then this equipment gives you all the convenience and functionality that DAB provides.

The price on Amazon is low, from what I've seen elsewhere. Great Christmas present.
