Philips DCB152/05 31 Oct 2010
I bought this Micro system on the back of buying two of Philips GoGear media MP3 players and being so impressed with the sound quality and usability of those. I must say, that the sound quality in this micro system is outstanding. Even at very high volumes (and it is very loud) it remains crisp on all IQ levels, and no distortion at all.

The USB input is great, as I can have all my favourite albums on one USB pen ready to play. The digital radio is great, finding all the channels and the sound quality is amazing, with track info being displayed. There is a standard head phone type jack to connect your MP3 player too. The sound on this is okay, but not as loud or as crisp as the USB pen method. The CD player is a real good one too. There is Auxilary inputs at the back, which I tested with my Tascam Multi Track recorder for mixing, and it was, well, WOW!!!

I currently have the Auxilary plumbed into my TV, and when we watch a DVD Movie, we switch the Philips on Aux, and, well, hold on to your seats! Amazing! Cinama type audio! In an action movie, if a gun shop or bomb goes off, your windows rattle LOL!

Just wonderful!!!!

Down side!

Only one for me. The unit has an IPOD docking station on top, which is great. However, I was amazed to find that this docking station did not support Philips own GoGear range of MP3 players. Especially when Philips have gone to the trouble of using the same connectivity on their units as on Ipod units. Some of the newer Philips Ipod docking stations supports both, but not here, which i found not just unreasonable, but a little bit betraying of their own faithful customers in favour of IPOD's.

There have also been negative remarks in regards to the small hand control, which being small, personally I find a relief, as our world of remotes grows in our home, and I only wish they were all this small. I think that if you have exceptional bad eye sight, this may be a problem, but for the majority of users, it will not be a problem, and in fact a welcome relief. The same could be said for the LCD display. Yes, it is neatly compact, but I have no problems reading it at all, and makes the unit very stylish and neat. I can stand six feet away and have no problems reading.

All In All!

With that moan over, I'm so impressed with Philips sound equipment every time I buy it. Truly beautiful audio! This is no exception. You will be so pleased and rocking all night, and with so many ways to play your music.

Other than that moan I just had, and putting that aside. 100% on all areas.

My music now sounds as it should have. Picking up all those little studio extra sounds that cheaper audio looses. Fantastic!

Well done again Philips.

Lovely compact, stylish, great sound, MP3 player good.
We needed a new CD player in the lounge our old JVC mini system packed up but after looking at several systems a few months ago couldnt seem to find a system with the red and white auxilary for plugging a record deck into and what we could find with the said plug ins where massive and ugly. This one has the said aux plugs and is neat and tidy little system, main unit is about 21cms x 8cms x 23cms approx the ipod dock is on the top ( I dont have an ipod, Ive got creative Zen xfi mp3, which is great)The MP3 connection is in the front of the system, along with usb and head phones.
Radio sounds great, despite the aerial being hooked over a picture frame!
In general its a super system the black finish looks very nice better than the old JVC system (about 7 years old)which was a jade colour! but the speakers were still good (very good!) and are at my workshop on my very cheap and nasty Alba system which has transformed the sound from a tinny mono racket to a disco sound!!!
Much recommended system with lovely clear sound, and if you like loud music but without distortion and without taking up too much room then this is the system for you.

I am pretty impressed with this bit of kit.

There is a lot going for it: it is small and looks good; it is multifunctioned with CD, DAB, FM,UBS and an Ipod port. These all work fine. There is also an AUX input so that you can play the tv through it. I found it difficult to get all these in one box, especially with the AUX input, so was relieved to chance upon this Phillips.

I have been pleased with the sound quality. Admittedly I am using my own speakers (Wharfedale bookshelf speakers) and while I have not tried the pair in the box, suspect that there will be a big difference in sound quality between them. Using my Wharfedales, the system is on a par with the hi-fi separates that they replace (a budget-end Rotel amp and Marantz CD). I have had a struggle to fit my thicker speaker wire into the back of the hi-fi however, as the speaker wire holes are quite thin in the back of the Phillips.

The LCD is too small unless you are reasonably near the system, face on. Normally not a problem unless you are searching for a DAB station.

I would recommend this to anyone. If you are after a richer sound, it is probably worth using some meatier speakers.
