Start your day the right way by waking up gently to a gradually increasing alarm volume. Normal alarm sounds with a pre-set volume are either too low to wake you up or are so uncomfortably loud that you are rudely jolted awake. Choose to wake up to your favourite music, radio station or buzzer alarm. Gentle wake's alarm volume gradually increases from subtly low to reasonably high in order to gently rouse you.

When connected and docked, this docking system will automatically synchronise the clock with your iPod/iPhone/iPad within a few seconds. With this convenient feature, you do not need to set the time manually.

Smartly designed spring-loaded docking port effortlessly accommodates any iPod or iPhone, without special adaptors. What's more, it works even when most protective cases are on just dock your iPod or iPhone as it is.

Manufacturer's Description

Play and charge your iPod/iPhone/iPad and get rich, clear sound. This chic aluminium desktop dock can charge up to two devices together. It also works as an alarm clock, starting your day with your favourite songs or the radio. Has a gentle wake for a pleasant waking experience and a weekday/weekend alarm setting to complement your lifestyle.

10 W RMS total output power
RMS refers to Root Mean Square, which is a typical measurement of audio power, or rather, the electrical power transferred from an audio amplifier to a loudspeaker, which is measured in watts. The amount of electrical power delivered to the loudspeaker and its sensitivity determines the sound power that is generated. Essentially, amplifiers are limited by the electrical energy they can amplify and loudspeakers by the electrical energy they can convert into sound energy, without distorting the audio signal. The higher the wattage, the better the sound power emitted by the speaker.

Aluminium cabinet for quality look and feel
Aluminium die casting is lightweight and can withstand higher temperatures. It offers great strength and rigidity, along with good corrosion resistance.

Digital tuning with preset stations for extra convenience
Simply tune into the station that you want to preset, then press and hold the preset button to memorise the frequency. With preset radio stations that can be stored, you can quickly access your favourite radio station without having to manually tune the frequencies each time.

Gentle wake for a pleasant waking experience
Start your day the right way by waking up gently to a gradually increasing alarm volume. Normal alarm sounds with a pre-set volume are either too low to wake you up or are so uncomfortably loud that you are rudely jolted awake. Choose to wake up to your favourite music, radio station or buzzer alarm. Gentle wake's alarm volume gradually increases from subtly low to reasonably high in order to gently rouse you.

MP3 Link for portable music playback
The MP3 link connectivity allows direct playback of MP3 content from portable media players. Besides the benefit of enjoying your favourite music in the superior sound quality delivered by the audio system, the MP3 link is also extremely convenient as all you have to do is to plug your portable MP3 player into the audio system.

Auto clock synchronisation with iPod/iPhone/iPad when docked
When connected and docked, this docking system will automatically synchronise the clock with your iPod/iPhone/iPad within a few seconds. With this convenient feature, you do not need to set the time manually.

Weekday/weekend alarm setting to complement your lifestyle
Designed with modern day lifestyles in mind, this clock radio has a dual alarm feature, allowing you to set different alarm times for weekdays and weekends or even vary the alarm settings for couples. The alarm settings can be tailored for the same alarm times for the entire week from Monday to Sunday. Or you can set the alarm for an early start on weekdays from Monday to Friday, and lazy lie-ins for Saturday and Sundays. Whichever you choose, this convenient feature saves you from the hassle of fiddling with different alarm times every single night.

Dock any iPod/iPhone, even in its case
Smartly designed spring-loaded docking port effortlessly accommodates any iPod or iPhone, without special adaptors. What’s more, it works even when most protective cases are on – just dock your iPod or iPhone as it is. Now you can truly have fuss-free enjoyment of your music.

Wake up to your iPod/iPhone/iPad music or radio tunes
Wake up to the music that you love the most. Select your favourite radio station or soothing tunes from your iPod/iPhone/iPad and make a difference to your mornings. The clock starts to play your selection softly, with gradual increases in volume, until it reaches the volume level of your choice. Now you can control how you wake up and start your day right every single time.

This does work better than anything else we have tried used as an internet-based clock automatic bedside radio (we have very poor FM & DAB reception). So we go to bed with the phone on a radio app, switch off when done (using the remote for example) or use 'sleep' and it comes on as a radio nicely (& gradually) at the designated 'alarm' time in the morning, remaining on until the phone is removed. And under some circumstances (hard to establish) it will even automatically switch the phone to the radio app when the phone is inserted. This all works fine and is far more reliable than our previous internet radio which used a proprietary internet 'gateway' instead of connecting direct to the radio source.

So far so great - but there are awkward wrinkles that can be worked around but not programmed out (by us!). For example the one-button 'sleep' function works fine provided the radio is off when it is pressed - if it should be already on all seems well and it shuts off as set (in 30 mins say) but after the maximum sleep window (2hrs) it will revert to on (at 2 in the morning for example!). And like most people we never want the beep alarm (alarm clocks/phones are much easier); but if the phone is missing from the unit when the 'alarm' time comes you get the annoying sound and have to shut it down; which might not be too bad except that this causes the unit to switch the alarm default to beep for subsequent mornings (even if the phone is now there) and it has to be laboriously reset to get the radio back!

So nice but not quite there - and I am very frustrated that it cannot be more extensively personalised - via a web interface (phone app) for example.

Loved the bass it produces.
It does have the advantage to charge to devices at the same time, in my case, two phones.
The display has three levels off dimming, which is comfortable, but I could ask for an extra level even for softer.
I'm enjoying it quite a lot.

I'm using it only as a sound speaker and radio so will not comment on the alarm functions.
I have used it for a week. The sound quality is acceptable for the price. The 'Dynamic Bass Boost' is a good. The remote control is a very useful feature. It seems to have a lot of functions which I have yet to explore.
The biggest problem for me at the moment is the design of the iPad dock at the back. In my view, it should never have been approved by the Product Design department from Philips. I wondered if they actually tested it them self to see if an iPad can be docked. Its not just difficult; it is impossible. The connector is flexible which is a great feature in other circumstance. However, it is also spring loaded towards the back support. Even on the drawing board someone should have realised that the geometry is such that it is not going to work. To get so far as being made and released for sale- simply unbelievable from a big name brand like Philips. Anyway, if you can get over this (which I am by using an allen key), buy it.

Unfortunately there is no sound and this is because the German supplier will not supply this with a UK plug. Therefore this does look absolutely lovely but I have no idea as to what the sound quality is like.I am disappointed not to be able to use this product.

As described, delivery was quick, even over the Christmas period. Bought as a present for a friend, who finds it easy to use, radio gives good reception and all controls easy to use. One slight question mark over connecting the iPad, it's quite awkward, care and patience needed. But overall a handy and convenient piece of kit.

After 3 days use...

Good:

- solid, well-built. Compliments the quality feel of iPad/iPhone.

- does what it says on the tin. Mount/charge and play from ipad or iPhone. Front dock is for iPhone only, back is for either. Held secure when docked.

- quite powerful sound for the size. Audio is nicely detailed and clean.

- range of controls for display brightness, some preset sound profiles, remote control

Not so Good:

- nice to have a remote; but the buttons are small and squashy, a contrast to the solid metallic controls on the unit.

- no app. Time not automatically set from iPhone/ ipad, has to be entered manually.

- rather difficult to dock an iPad without fiddling about and having a number of stabs at it. I'm hoping that I will get used to it in time, but at the moment it takes at least 3 or 4 goes before I can wedge it in to the connector. Slightly concerned about scratching the iPad in the process.

Summary:

For those with both iPad and iPhone, I think this is one of the best docking options (if not the best). Very happy so far!
