This review is from: Philips Nivea For Men Coolskin HS8460 Rechargeable Shaver With Refill and Charge Stand (Personal Care)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
To be honest, I was about to write this shaver off as a waste of money after testing the HS8420, which retails at about half the price. Then I realised, through use, that the battery last longer, the shaver charges quicker and it comes with a beard shaver (albeit separate).
In addition to this, the stand is much more than that. For a start, I had big problems with the coolskin Nivea cream after a while (and after I'd written the review for that shaver), it started leaking and wouldn't fill properly. This stand helped with that as it automatically fills the shaver. It still leaked with the older shaver, but that was because the shaver had a fault.
The stand also has a charge indicator and an indicator for the state of the cream (full, filling and empty) which is very useful and stops you worrying about when the cream needs changing. It's easy to just leave the stand plugged in and let it do all the work after you've finished shaving. The shaver fits in with a satisfying click, no accidental knocking over into the sink/toilet like with some other stands!
The shaver itself seems a little more powerful than the cheaper models, as well as being quicker to recharge. As with the other coolskin shavers, the heads are raised from the body, giving it an almost alien look, but because of this it actually managed to shave closer to the skin and tilts better with the contours of my face.
So, despite my initial worries about value for money and the slight annoyance of having a separate beard attachment, the HS8460 passes with flying colours and I can recommend it.

Best electric yet, but doesn't conquer wet, 26 Aug 2009
This review is from: Philips Nivea For Men Coolskin HS8460 Rechargeable Shaver With Refill and Charge Stand (Personal Care)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
I've been using Philips shavers ever since I hit puberty over 15yrs ago, so I am slightly biased towards the three blade system, having never used a foil shaver.
I have however for a number of years now alternately shaved with a gold standard Mach3 razor, which in comparison to all electrics I've used to date, is still much superior when approaching the neck. And my shaver until this one was a Philips Arcitec which was definitely not what it was hyped up to be but still better than previous Philishaves.
The HS8460 has a number of improvements for the higher price tag. The first thing you notice is how light and small it is compared to most Philips shavers, and it is less noisy.
As well as the essential blades cover and brush you're provided with a travelling charger station, a full size one and a light travel bag.
Charging takes a now-standard 1.5 hours and has so far given me comparable shaving time. The main charging station also provides a brainless way to load Coolskin (one 75ml canister provided).
I have to admit I thought the Coolskin thing was a bit of a gimmick but upon using it, it is actually nice.
It's best used on a slightly wet face and as you shave, you feel as if you're rubbing a pencil eraser than shielded blades. A very glide-y shave.
In it's wake you're left with a face that's brilliantly moisturised, which means you could do without aftershave moisturiser. I am quite prone to rashes and spots on an electric and this definitely has reduced the amount of them. This combo makes it similar to wet shaving with aloe vera gel.
The only thing I'm unsure about is just how much is apt to squeeze from the button. I do a few squirts per shave, so I hope I'm not overdoing it as I'd like the canister to last around three months as promised to make the overall price economical. But I guess I'll understand by feel after a few seasons.
A few things I don't like are: having to change the head for the trimmer than a pop out one and the fiddly way you have to turn the blade heads to take them out for washing. On my Arcitec I appreciate the flip-top chamber system.
The instruction manual could do with a few words, but then we live in a world where they are barely utilised anymore.
Also, on the neck it is actually better than the Arcitec - but still not as good as wet. Philips are getting there, but for the neck there needs to be a completely new type of blade system to make electric shaving an unbeatable choice over wet. I will still wet shave alternately.
However for the price, you are getting what you pay for: A luxurious electric shave with accurate cutting of hair to the smallest amount of stubble (at least on the face).

Could be better for some, 27 Aug 2009
This review is from: Philips Nivea For Men Coolskin HS8460 Rechargeable Shaver With Refill and Charge Stand (Personal Care)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
Let's start with saying I don't like electric razors. Never found one yet that didn't give me a huge rash and i've tried quite a few in the last 20 odd years.
However the Philips is probably the best so far. The rotary head seems to glide better than a foil and the nivea gel the razor dispences definately helps to cool the skin although i thought it would since i use nivea already after wet shaving with great effect.
What you get on this model over the cheaper coolskin versions are quicker charging and longer battery life plus a very tidy recharge stand for both power and the nivea gel. Whilst putting the gel in yourself is not hard having it all neat and tidy in the bathroom pleased the missus.
Most people seem to agree it's the best razor so far put apparantly it take upto 3 weeks for your skin to adjust to the lift and cut of the new blades so having only had it a week i'm hoping the neck rash improves soon.
