I own almost the full range of Philips Robust devices:
Philips Robust Collection HR7781/00 Food Processor
Philips Robust Collection HR2181/00 2 Blade Blender
Philips Robust Collection HR1581/00 Hand Mixer
Philips Robust Collection HR1379/00 Cordless Rechargeable Hand Blender
As an ex professional chef de cuisine I use all of these products at home at least a couple times every week.

I have considered my money well spent on the Philips Robust Collection products. But now, this latest addition to the family, the HR1379 hand blender, is far from the quality compared to the rest of the Philips Robust range.

The TOP-5 design flaws of the hand blender are as per following:

    1. Hand Blender's metal polished alloy stem part (the blade unit) does not stay properly on the main engine unit. The stem does not click-in clearly, nor stays on properly, but may fall off from another side (of the two sided click'n lock construction) during use. This may be a faulty unit, but the design in not very robust. EXTREMELY UNSAFE.

    2. The charging dock and the main unit have very loose / vague positioned fitting (4mm movement backwards and forwards at the charging/hanging connectors) and the main unit may fall off from the dock if placed on the dock without special attention and care (or if kids touch it while docked / charging on the table top). VERY UNSAFE AND SOMEWHAT INCONVENIENT.

    3. The safety lock button is too stiff to press; does not work properly as you need much more pressure to press the lock button than you would expect. In the other words; once it is pressed all the way down, that is not enough, but needs an extra hard press to get the button connector to function.

First impression was how easy the box was to open, It does mention that the inner carton can be used for storage, good idea but to big for our already full kitchen. Plus it is such a good looking appliance why hide it.

You get the cordless blender, a charging stand, chopper bowl with a chopper blade and a serrated one idea for ice. There is also a measuring beaker with lid.

Doesn't take long for It's full charge (2.5hours) then a quick 15 minutes for soup etc.

The blender feels and looks like a professional one, solid with a good weight and balance.

My wife is a big soup maker, we have a bowl for lunch 2 or 3 times a week made from fresh vegetables.
she uses a Philips HR1366/90 Hand Blender Philips HR1366/90 Hand Blender - 600W plus she still has our old Philips Billy Blender which both do a fine job.
The problem with our kitchen is finding a free plug and a clear area when the blender is required, cordless can go anywhere!
I was concerned that the blender would not have the power to pulp the vegetables for a good soup, I didn't need to worry, It made very light work of some carrots.

Power is via powerful 7.4 V Li-ion batteries which lasted a good 20 minutes, also being a Li-ion there is no worry of a bad charge as was the case with the old Ni-cad batteries which were on the first rechargeable drills and screw drivers.

One thing I do like is the added rubber to the base of the mixer stand and blender bowl which prevents any slips.

Everything comes apart for easy cleaning, and the blender can sit back on it's charge stand for easy storage.

This is a quality piece, which has been made and designed with the end user in mind, most defiantly recommended.

This really is a quality handblender. Feels incredibly sturdy and makes quick work of soups and sauces. I was thrilled to find it was cordless as battling with handblender cords both in and out of the cupboard can be a pain, although it does mean I have had to make room on my kitchen side for it.

When we first set it up I was a bit worried about having something so sharp and dangerous all set up and ready to go on the side in case the kids ever took it into their heads to mess with it, but actually you have to hold the top button down for a few seconds to unlock it before you press the on button, it took a little bit of getting used to before I was operating it smoothly but now it feels quite natural and I feel happy that it's tricky enough for the kids not to set it off by fiddling.

I've had no problem with the charge so far, I only use it for a minute or so at a time and it has never run out. It does look a little bit like a power tool and maybe I would have preferred something a little smoother but it certainly does feel robust.

It comes with a chopper attachment which works brilliantly for breadcrumbs and a jug which I mainly use for whipping up milkshakes. When you are finished using it, the blades are easily detached and put in the dishwasher.

All in all a fantastic hand blender.

The Philips Robust Hand Blender looks and feels like it was hewn rather than constructed, and lives up to its name completely.
It comes with a stick blender attachment and a mini processor attachment, as well as an additional blade for ice. What you won't find is the plethora of other add-ons that you usually get, some useful ... many are not ... but a blender jug would have been useful, so a point off for sparseness of offerings.

The big advantage the philips robust hand blender gives you is that it is cordless. no more wires trailing over a hot stove or our to a work surface. The Lithium battery last for up to 20 mins, and I have to say, you would have to be getting through a mountain of stuff to run it down. The motor is powerful and much quieter than our old hand blender (Philips).

It is easy to clean, feels solid (if a little weighty for some) and looks great.

I have produced creamy soup, houmous, crushed ice, pestos, veg mash, ground nuts and parmesan and the Holy Grail ... I made super quick mayo in about 30 secs ... no more messing about with drizzles of oil for me.
Yes it is expensive, but it should last for years ... and most importantly will get used frequently.
