The Philips Ultrasonic humidifier helps to improve the air quality of your baby's room by adding moisture to the air to create a comfortable humidity level.

This helps to protect the baby against irritation of mucous membrane, dry and itchy skin, chapped lips and a dry and soar throat. When the mucous membranes do not function optimally they cannot give the baby full protection from all kinds of germs. This increases the chance of the baby catching a cold or the flu and redusces the baby's resistance.

The hygrometer and thermometer are included for monitoring the temperature and the humidity of the baby's room. When the relative humidity level of the baby's room is below the comfortable zone of 40-60% , the humidifier can be used to increase humidity and comfort level.

The thermometer can be used to monitor whether the temperature is in the comfortable temperature zone for the baby. The humidifier uses and ultrasonic , high frequency oscillator to break up the water into tiny particles.

The ventilation system blows out these water particles (mist) into the dry air where they evaporate to ensure the required humidity. The great advantage of this sytem is that it operates extremely silently without affecting room temperature or steaming up windows etc.

It is fully safe to leave your baby alone with the humidifier because it has an auto off function that kicks in when the water tank is empty or when the product does not stand straight up or falls down. The mist output can be adjusted to different levels in order to achieve the required humidity, the direction of the mist output is also adjustable.

We've had two of this humidifier and both have broken within 6 months of owning and using them. For some reason, both just stopped creating mist and one of them had the rubber gasket that rests on the ultrasonic plate even disintegrate. NOT recommended!

This ultrasonic humidifier is quiet, reliable, energy efficient and effective. Our two SCH580s have received heavy use during the year we've had them and they've been trouble free. If you live in a hardwater area, you should use filtered water to avoid limescale buildup.

Have had this for two years now without any problems. It's perhaps not quite as quiet as the manufacturers would like to think, but it is excellent at pumping humidity into a room, is very safe and easy to use, and has made our house a great deal more comfortable as well as banishing winter colds. Recommended.
