Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
The whole thing is extremely easy to set up. You'll need to buy your own HDMI cable as it's not included, but once you've got that, you're pretty much sorted. The player doesn't require you to change any settings when setting up as it does it automatically, but it gives you the option to do so at the Main Menu. You can play YouTube videos and connect the player to your computer/laptop, but this requires a separate Wi-Fi dongle, which again is not included.

This plays Blu Ray discs beautifully, and upscales regular DVDs to near-HD quality. Also, if you have any movies on an external hard drive, you can play them using the USB port on the front of the machine. In regards to the remote, I could not find any batteries despite it saying they should be included, but nonetheless, the remote itself is very straightforward, and the buttons are firm, meaning that you won't need to `button-mash' all the time, as is the case on the previous model.

Essentially, this is a slight upgrade from the Philips BDP3200/05 DivX Plus HD Blu-Ray Disc/DVD Player. The only major differences are a tiny redesign (slightly more rounded, and the buttons are on the top of the machine rather than on the front) as well as the added 3D capabilities, which I unfortunately cannot review because my TV is not 3D compatible. I'm sure, however, that as 3D is now a pretty common bit of technology, and based on the fact that the machine does everything else well, the 3D function is probably pretty good.

Finally, the one major difference that I've noticed is that connecting to an external hard drive is now SO MUCH QUICKER. On the old model, it would take a few minutes to load the hard drive, and another few minutes to navigate through folders, etc. Now, it is much quicker (pretty much instant access).

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
With the arrival of 3D tvs and blurays, 3D has been revolutionised for the home. Now there haven't been many 3D budget blurays on the market, just the high priced surround sound kitted bundles. But this looks like one that will corner the market in budget 3D bluray players. First off, the player comes in a slick sleak design. It's easy to set up and the 3D is good for the price you pay. Downside, the scan on this isn't too great. If you are watching a bluray especially an action one, you will noticed hat the action is skipping ever so slightly through the scene, like it is taking a micro second to buffer the next second. However if you are not studying the screen during this then you probaly won't see it but if you are a Connoisseur like me about these matters then you will see it easily. Sound is top for a budget player and it handles the discs well and upgrades the picture on a normal DVD well too. It works with most TVs that have 3D and it mingles well with any 3D film you play so it is worth it.

All you need now is a budget 3DTV and you're laughing.

I specifically bought this unit because of it's promised capabilities as a network media player, to find these lacking is disapointing.

As a bluray player it works well - I'd expect nothing less..however the advertised features dont work well, at all.

USB - It's very picky about what usbstick it takes, I had to try 3 different ones before eventually one powered up and worked.
Network - Quick and easy to set up BUT - in order to have wireless set up you need you own wireless dongle or accesspoint..Player is sold as wireless-n READY..not actually capable.
Once set up you'll see any network players, and you''ll get a very simple overview of your shared media and it's esay to find what you want.
That's where the fun ends tho.
1. Youtube app - Doesn't buffer enough before starting playback. This means that it WILL stop/start.
2. Serverbases media - Starts really fast, stops soon after though, buffers for 2 secs, then stutters on for another bit.
Fair enough it DOES support loads of different formats mkv, xvid, divx - it treats them all the same.
I know this isn't down to my network speeds as I have wireless devices at a greater distance that'll buffer more and playback the same files with no ill effects.

I've tried multple server applications; Twonky (paid), TVersity (paid) and PS3media Server (free) - all tried and tested applications, indeed I use the two of the in my own setup and they've been working well for some time. However I'm not having any joy with the Philips player. Having had philips devices for years I of course remembered to update the firmware..it actually made the buffering issue worse..and there's no way to adjust it - the settings are SO simple there are practically no options

I bought this in the "black friday sale" - it was dead cheap, but I'm still so unhappy with it that I'm returning it.

Philips, buck up!

The time arrived to replace our trusty DVD player/recorder. We don't need the recording bit as we have Sky+ but we certainly need the DVD bit. Of course I was worried that we would have to start buying blu-ray replacements just as before when we moved from video to DVD but no - this player really plays DVDs brilliantly enhancing them as well. Next problem wires, and fitting. No problem at all it was so straight forward, far easier that fitting the old player. We are delighted with our purchase. It arrived safely in the time stated, was easy to install, plays all our DVDs. Excellent value for money - would certainly highly recommend.

NOT GREAT anymore! Its Feb 2014 and this Blu-ray player and DVD has died! Not impressed, have always been pro Philips, but not any more, have just ordered an LG fingers crossed.
