Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Sharpen home entertainment with full high definition. Get five times more clarity and new exciting features. Check out bonus features with BD-Live and play your favourite videos via USB. Enjoy DVDs close to HD via HDMI upscaling technology.

Subtitle Shift for widescreen without any missing subtitles

Subtitle Shift is an enhancement feature that lets users manually adjust a movie's subtitle positioning on the television or computer screen. Using the remote control, users can shift the subtitles up and down on the screen. On widescreen displays, such as 21:9 cinema and projectors, the subtitles sometimes get cut off. In order to see them clearly, the user has to change the display aspect ratio, which defeats the purpose of the widescreen. With the Subtitle Shift feature, the user can retain the correct display aspect ratio and have the subtitles ideally positioned on the screen.

The high storage capacity of Blu-ray Discs also allows a host of interactive possibilities to be built in. Seamless navigation during playback and other exciting features such as pop-up menus bring a whole new dimension to home entertainment.

1080p at 24 fps for cinema-like images

Bring a true cinema experience into your living room, with 24 frames-per-second video. Original films are all recorded at this frame rate, providing an ambience and image texture that is so unique. Philips Blu-ray Disc players are equipped to bring you 24fps directly from Blu-ray Discs — giving you sensational cinema-like high definition images that will astound you.

DivX Ultra Certified for enhanced playback of DivX videos

With DivX support, you can enjoy DivX encoded videos in the comfort of your living room. The DivX media format is an MPEG4-based video compression technology that enables you to save large files such as movies, trailers and music videos on media, e.g. CD-R/RW and DVD recordable discs. DivX Ultra merges DivX playback with great features including integrated subtitles, multiple audio languages, multiple tracks and menus into one convenient file format.

Receive up-to-date content just by connecting your Blu-ray Disc player to the Internet

DVD video upscaling to 1080p via HDMI for near-HD images

HDMI 1080p upscaling delivers images that are crystal clear. DVD movies in standard definition can now be enjoyed in high definition resolution - ensuring more details and more true-to-life pictures. Progressive Scan (represented by "p" in "1080p') eliminates the line structure prevalent on TV screens, again ensuring relentlessly sharp images. To top it off, HDMI makes a direct digital connection that can carry uncompressed digital HD video as well as digital multi-channel audio, without conversions to analogue - delivering perfect picture and sound quality, completely free from noise.

Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA for HD 7.1 surround sound

DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD deliver 7.1 channels of the finest sound from your Blu-ray Discs. Audio reproduced is virtually indistinguishable from the studio master, so you hear what the creators intended for you to hear. DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD complete your high definition entertainment experience.

BD-Live (Profile 2.0) to enjoy online Blu-ray bonus content

BD-Live opens up your world of high definition even further. Receive up-to-date content just by connecting your Blu-ray Disc player to the Internet. Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Link plays video/music from USB flash drives

The Universal Serial Bus or USB is a protocol standard that is conveniently used to link PCs, peripherals and consumer electronic equipment. Hi-Speed USB devices have a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps - up from the 12 Mbps of original USB devices. With Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Link, all you have to do is plug in your USB device, select the movie, music or photo and play away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Philips Blu Ray Player, 28 Mar 2011
This review is from: Philips BDP3100/05 Blu-Ray Player (1080p,HDMI,BD-Live Profile 2.0) (Electronics)
I have been a DVD fan since their inception and before that a VCD fan, therefore I was looking for a player which played a mutitude of formats. I was not disappointed with various formats is plays. I have had the following formats playing in it:

DVD

Blu Ray

Video CD

Super Video CD

Music CD

MP3 (from mp3 player)

Jpg (from Camera)

DiVX (from dongle)

The unit has a couple of USB slots which allow connection of various devices such as digial cameras, Mp3 players etc, however it is not universal so do not buy it in mind for this purpose. It also does not support NTFS format on portable devices and can crash the machine if you contect a device it can't find. I found this to may dismay when I plugged my portable hard disc into it and it crashed. If it does crash, just turn off and back on.

The unit is slow and quite noisy on start-up but once it is up and running it is very quiet and does everything quickly.

The remote control is a pleasing looking thing and fits well in the plam of the hand, however you need to point it directly at the machine in order for it to work; the fast forward and the chapter forward button are right next to each other and look similar, therefore I have accidently skipped a chapter many times. It just takes a bit more care to ensure you don't do this. There is a function called Anynet+ which allows me to use my samsung remote for the basic functions which is very handy, I have a samsung TV and it works with this.

Power is turned on my a large buttton on the remote and if you pause what you are watching before you turn it off, the system remembers your place, handy if you are watching a boxset. Eject is controlled by holding in the stop button for a few seconds on the remote or on the front of the unit.

Picture and sound quality are excellent as long as you invest in a good HDMI lead, which is not included in the sale price. I avoided a disaster here as my friend pre-warned me of this.

A very good all round machine that I would recommend highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Blueray Player, 19 May 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Philips BDP3100/05 Blu-Ray Player (1080p,HDMI,BD-Live Profile 2.0) (Electronics)
As I have hundreds of VCDs, I was looking for a blueray player which can play these VCDs instead of having another player for VCDs. This is a great blueray player as it plays Blue-ray, DVD and VCD.

The normal DVDs played by this blueray player has lot more clarity on my Full-HD, 60 inch plasma TV.

I receommend this player.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broken already only brought it this year 2011, 5 Nov 2011
This review is from: Philips BDP3100/05 Blu-Ray Player (1080p,HDMI,BD-Live Profile 2.0) (Electronics)
Brought it early 2011, now it has stopped working altogether, all disks come up with error message unknown disk. This would seem to be quite a common problem for this make from what I have read on the Internet. Would not recommend buying it even without this happening. It was very slow and took ages just to eject a disk.
