Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The Philips AZ1008 is an affordable portable stereo that features a CD player, tape deck and FM/AM tuner. It's a compact package, weighing in at around 2.75 kg, finished in silver, with a carry handle that folds down flush to the system. The two speakers, that sit either side of the main controls are housed behind metal grilles and are accompanied by a bass reflex system, which is unusual on a system at this end of the market. This, in conjunction with the dynamic bass boost gives a fairly full sound. With only 1W RMS per channel, you're not going to "rock the house" with the AZ1008, but it does an effective job of delivering a clear sound and makes a useful addition to kitchens or bedrooms.

The CD player is a top-loaded unit, with moulded finger grips for opening the lid. Controls are straightforward and placed on the front of the system. These controls form a semi-circle around the basic two-digit LCD display on the front of the stereo, which shows, among other things, track numbers. Features of the CD player include, repeat, track/music search and synchro start recording. The controls for the cassette deck, sliding mode select and rotary analogue tuner are on the top of the system. The cassette deck mechanism, which is placed centrally on the front of the system, has a dampened eject. The tuner supports FM and AM reception and the stereo has a decent built-in telescopic aerial.

The Philips AZ1008 is not designed to win over audiophiles, but it produces an acceptable sound quality in an attractive and well constructed unit. It makes a good value purchase for those looking for a second system. --Jason Weston

FUN AND VERSITILE! 14 Aug 2002
By A Customer
Summer is here and i needed a portable player for the beach, barbques and for music when out doors. Theres loads of these boomboxes on the market at this price but very few brand names as good as PHILIPS pop up in this price bracket. i purchased with confidence as i hadnt heard the player in action but when i opened it and tried it i was delighted with it. Easy to use, great looking, more than enough sound quality and grat build. Theres some great features thrown in too. Highly recomended.
