Made of ultra-fine, soft odourless, taste-free silicone, Philips AVENT Nipple Protectors provide relief for sore or cracked nipples during breastfeeding. Butterfly-shaped to allow the baby more contact with the breast, the baby can still feel and smell the mother's skin and continue to stimulate milk supply whilst suckling, and will return easily to the breast once nipples are healed. These nipple protectors are only designed for use with sore or cracked nipples.

We switched to the Avent brand after having no success with Mothercare's own-brand nipple shields. These protectors do the job and have helped our baby to latch on to the breast very well. We would have given them a five-star rating if they had been a little more 'clingy' (try a dab of Vaseline on either side to help them stick to the skin) and if they had come in a case that could be sterilised.

These protectors really saved me a whole world of pain. I continued to use them through breastfeeding both of my children. They are light and discreet allowing for lots of skin to skin contact.

Having tried the Boots version, I can honestly say that these are the best shields around. These attach well to the the nipple and do not tend to fall off, making it far easier for the baby to latch on. The shape of the teat is also ideal for baby to effectively feed. I am currently breastfeeding and I have to use these all the time. Don't be afraid that they will affect your milk supply to the baby if you have to use these. The health visitor insisted to me that I could only use these for a limited period, but my daughter is now twelve weeks and is in six to nine month clothes and sleeps through the night, so she is certainly getting enough!
Ideal for short term use in the case of mastitus, for example, but also long term use also, if you have flat nipples and require them as a breastfeeding aid. They are also discreet with practice and I can now feed in public with them discreetly. Also ideal to go in any sterilizer. They aren't cheap, but they are a good product.

Great for baby to latch on
Baby was having difficulty latching on and this seemed to really help. It doesn't stay on that well to begin with but once the baby's suckling it seems to be fine.

Brillant, could not have breastfed without them
