Product Description

Product Description

For your newborn's feeding needs, pick the Philips AVENT Newborn Flow Teat

The Philips AVENT Newborn Flow Teat is an extra-soft silicone teat with one hole, ideal for newborn babies.

No 1 recommended

Philips AVENT teats make it easier to feed your baby, whether entirely by bottle or a combination of breast and bottle. The naturally shaped silicone teat allows your baby to control milk flow as it would when breastfeeding. This allows your baby to suckle almost as at the breast. As your baby feeds, the unique skirt on the AVENT teat flexes to allow air into the bottle, rather than baby’s tummy, preventing colic. The gentle whistling sound and watch the air bubbles burst on the surface of the milk. That's your guarantee that the air is being released into the bottle--not into your baby's tummy.

The naturally shaped teat allows baby to control milk flow as when breastfeeding, making it easy to combine breast and bottle.

Philips AVENT teats are designed to fit all bottles in the AVENT range. The AVENT teats are interchangeable, and available in different flow rates--newborn, slow, medium, fast and variable flow. Once baby moves up to the next teat stage, the old teat can simply be replaced with the new.

Remember that age indications are approximate, as babies develop at different rates. You will know when your baby is ready to move onto a faster flow rate because he or she will try to suck harder to get the milk more quickly. Baby may also show signs of tiredness or frustration during feeding.

Philips AVENT Feeding Bottles

The Philips AVENT Classic Feeding Bottle is designed to work with your baby's natural feeding rhythm. Philips AVENT bottles are clinically proven to reduce painful colic and discomfort after feeding.

Significantly reduces fussing

Unsettled and irritable behaviour, known as fussing, is by far the most commonly known crying behaviour in babies, but clinical studies show that the Philips AVENT Classic bottle significantly reduces fussing and colic. A randomised clinical trial was carried out to see whether infant feeding bottle design affects infant behaviour. The Philips AVENT bottle was shown to significantly reduce fussing by approximately 28 minutes a day as compared to the comparator bottle. This was especially true during night-time.

Fussing: A clinical study showed that at two weeks of age, babies showed less fussing than babies fed with another leading bottle.

Colic: A clinical study showed that at two weeks of age babies fed with a Philips AVENT bottle showed a trend to less colic than babies fed with a conventional bottle.

AVENT baby bottles come in a range of sizes.
Anti-colic system

Feeding bottles, whether they are angled or straight, need air inside the bottle to replace the milk your baby takes. When your baby drinks, a vacuum is formed in the bottle causing the teat to collapse, restricting milk flow. When unable to receive milk, a frustrated baby's natural reaction is to suck more vigorously, which in turn increases the amount of air swallowed. Most bottles need air to flow in through the hole in the tip of the teat to remove the vacuum, interrupting the flow and rhythm of sucking.

The two-piece anti-colic system on the Philips AVENT Feeding Bottle contains a ring that must be fitted between the teat and the bottle for extra performance.

Bottles are BPA-free and interchangeable with other AVENT products

Philips AVENT feeding bottles are 100% Bisphenol-A (BPA) free. Philips AVENT products have also been designed to be compatible with one another and are easily interchangeable, aiding the transition from newborn to toddler. Bottles and teats can be screwed on to or used with breast pumps, breast milk storage containers, magic cups, training cups and drinking spouts.

Superior quality

All Philips AVENT products are superior quality and designed with you and your baby's needs in mind. Through extensive research and clinical trials, Philips AVENT products work together effectively to promote baby's wellbeing and give you the flexibility to care for a growing baby.

Philips AVENT Tips for Bottle Feeding

  • Clean and sterilise all feeding parts before each use
  • Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or anti-bacterial cleaners with bottles and teats
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and ensure surfaces are clean before handling sterilized components
  • For inspection of the teat, pull it in each direction
  • Place the teat in boiling water for 5 minutes before first use to ensure hygiene
  • Throw away bottle and teats at the first sight of damage, weakness or scratching
  • Replace teats and spouts after 3 months use
  • Do not warm milk in a microwave as this may cause uneven heating and could scald your baby
  • Always check the milk temperature before feeding
  • Make sure that the bottles are not over-tightened
  • Do not allow your baby to play with small parts or run/walk while feeding

Based on December 2010 TNS online satisfaction survey conducted among more than 10 000 female users of childcare brands and products in the USA, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Russia and China.

Great for our baby 19 Aug 2011
By Miss Robinson TOP 1000 REVIEWER
We have found the size 1 (Newborn) teats to be the most suitable when giving our son expressed breastmilk as he would not be used to the faster flow of the bigger size teats. I'm sure in time he will want to go onto the larger ones but for now, this size is perfect. The teats fit snugly into the classic bottles with or without the anti-colic rings & the advanced bottles. They sterilise well & are extremely easy to put into place. The plastic container the teats arrive in is very useful for storing small bits & pieces such as dummies & medicine droppers.

    teats 17 May 2011
Advent bottles and teats I would highly recommend however the sizes are a little missleading we didn't go up to 1 month until she was 6 weeks but otherwise easy to clean & sterilise no problems so far

These are great teats, nice to touch and do the job.

My only concern is that the "avent brush" that they sell for the bottles does not have a suitable end to clean right into the pointy bit of the teat. Secondly it's only a twin pack (bottles are usually sold as 3 or 4 packs).
