Philips AVENT 3-in-1 steam steriliser

The Philips AVENT 3-in-1 Steriliser is here to help. A versatile steriliser that changes to suit your needs, it can be adjusted to fit the items you are sterilising, in order to take up the least amount of space in your kitchen.

The steriliser has 3 sizes:

● Small: the most compact configuration, perfect for sterilising soothers and small accessories such as teats

● Medium: for breast pumps or toddler plates, knives, forks and spoons

● Tall: the largest size, for sterilising a full load of 6 bottles and accessories

Fits all bottle types

The sterilizer has been designed to fit both wide-neck and narrow-neck bottles as well as different breast pumps and accessories. This gives you the freedom to choose the bottles and accessories that best suit you and your baby. At full capacity the sterilizer holds 6 330ml Philips AVENT bottles.

Fast and effective—sterilisation in 6 minutes

With a 6-minute cycle, your bottles and accessories will be sterilised before you know it. Once sterilisation is complete, the device will shut off automatically, ensuring extra safety and less energy consumption.

Just add water

The Philips AVENT 3-in-1 Steriliser is remarkably simple to use. Just add water, close the steriliser and press the button to run a cycle--easy. You'll have your bottles sterilised and ready for use in no time.

Contents stay sterile for up to 24 hours

The contents of the steriliser stay sterile for up to 24 hours if it remains unopened, meaning you can run a cycle, then return later in the day when you need to use a bottle or pump. This is particularly useful for those overnight feeds--there's no need for a tired mum or dad to wait for the steriliser to finish its cycle while a screaming baby waits for its milk or formula.

Sterilising protects your baby from particularly harmful bacteria until its immune system is strong enough. Philips AVENT Sterilisers use the hospital method of steam sterilisation, which is quick, easy, and effective, with no chemicals involved. This method kills 99.9% of harmful germs.

BPA free

This steriliser is made from BPA-free materials, which are safe for your baby.

Maintain your 3-in-1 Steriliser--Descale regularly

Keep your 3-in-1 Steriliser in good health--remember to descale this appliance, just as you would look after any other appliance in your home. Philips AVENT has made the heating plate visible and easier to clean so you can ensure your steriliser is free from limescale at all times. You may need to descale your product as often as every 2 weeks. The product can be descaled using a kettle descaler or a simple solution of vinegar and water--watch the video (located in the image section above) for detailed instructions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job nicely 31 May 2011
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The '3-in-1' part of the product's name refers to the fact there are three different ways to assemble it. With a small and large basket, its modular nature means that you can sterilise just a few items such as soothers or teats using only the small basket; use the larger basket on its own to sterilise medium sized items such as breast pumps, plates or cutlery; or combine the two to sterilise up to 6 x 330ml bottles.

It is a natural steam steriliser, so there's no need to purchase additional consumables such as chemicals. It operates in cycles of twenty minutes - 10 minutes to heat up and sterilise the contents of the baskets, and 10 minutes cool down. It's not possible to restart the system until it has completed it's ten minute cool down. It turns itself off automatically at the end of the heating cycle.

It is a lightweight plastic design, but with a sturdy feeling base. Although there seemed to be a bit of play between the interlocking baskets, there wasn't any steam leakage between the sections. The base has rubberised feet to prevent it sliding around. It is very easy to use, comes well packaged and ready to go, and also has a 2 year manufacturer's guarantee.

On a negative note, the sides of it did seem hot to the touch (hotter than you'd expect a plastic kettle to be when boiling), so care should be taken around it. In a similar vein, the steam vent on the top isn't particularly well marked. The switch is of a type that means you cannot tell whether the device is switched on or off until you actually plug it in, so again, take note - if you plug it in and the switch has been left in the 'on' position, the hot plate is going to start heating up whether there's water in it or not.

2.0 out of 5 stars Stops working after 2 months 10 Nov 2013
    Verified Purchase
I would not recommend this product. After only 2 months of use, the steriliser has stopped working and will simply not turn on. Prior to this, when it was working, it sterilised the bottles quickly though the plates burned resulting in everything smelling slightly burnt. A poor product from a brand I thought I could trust.

1.0 out of 5 stars Base plate rusts!! 27 Jan 2014
    By pgtips
We bought this knowing Philips is a good brand, money was not an issue we just wanted the best steriliser we could get.

Our daughter was born on the 13th January, within 1 week the base plate had rusted, now another week on and it smells of burning. 2 weeks use out of a product like this is awful!!

I really would spend your money elsewhere. We followed all the instructions but this product is not fit for purpose. We now need to look at another steriliser.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible - broke after 2 weeks! 5 Nov 2013

This is an awful product - after a couple of uses the steam smelt of burning and the plate at the bottom turned brown (yes, we had followed all the instructions carefully). A couple of weeks later it stopped turning on at all. Hopeless customer service from Amazon, I've had no response so will now always only order expensive items from John Lewis.

I expected more from Philips, and from Amazon, I would NOT recommend this product, or amazon, for purchases like this where reliability is a must!

    1.0 out of 5 stars NOT a good buy 1 May 2013
    By LB1972
    Verified Purchase
Within two days of using this steriliser the water trough was going dark brown and emitting a burning smell. This meant that the steam being sent up through the compartments was the steam from burning water - making our bottles and teats smell of burning, staining them brown and contaminating them (therefore, not sterile).
We phoned Phillips as our Amazon account said we were too late to return it (we'd bought it in November during the pregnancy but didn't need it until the baby was being bottle-fed in April). Phillips (despite lots of complaints on their websites of a similar nature), fobbed us off and said the problem was limescale and gave us instructions for descaling.
We went through this process (although how you're supposed to leave it to descale for several hours while you need to use it every 3-4 hours is a nonsense, and please someone show me a new Mum who has time to scrub a steriliser clean....) - but it was NOT limescale, it was burning. Within two days, the problem was back.
Eventually Amazon sent out a new one but our confidence in the product was gone.

As you can probably guess from the title of the review, I am seriously disappointed with this steriliser, to the point that I have stopped using it and am currently boiling bottles in a pan while I look for an alternative.

The steriliser is in 4 parts. There is a base with a small recess and element for putting in water and boiling it, a large basket for bottles, a small basket for teats and a lid. You fill the recess with water, place the baskets and lid on, press the button and away you go. In ten minutes you will have sterilised bottles, a big puddle of water on the bench and a strange smell where something is starting to burn onto the element.

Upon first use I carefully measured out the required amount of water. I came back to find the bench awash, and water getting dangerously close to some sockets. The element had boiled dry and a black crust started to form. On subsequent uses I have tried reducing the amount of water but to no avail, still puddles and now even more burning on the element. The device is on a firm, level surface, and I dry it out before starting to ensure there is no extra water in the system. It's highly unsatisfactory, I am worried about the burning on the element and the water around the sockets (though we now surround it with tea towels to mop up the overflow). A further negative is that if you accidentally press the button when it is unplugged, as soon as you plug it in it will start to heat up. And you cannot turn it off, you have to wait for it to go through its cycle and turn itself off. First time out of the box I plugged it in before I put the water in, and came back from the sink to find the element red hot.

Terrible design. 1 star. It's a shame, because we really like the Philips Avent bottles that come with it!
