I bought this set on offer while I was pregnant and it turned out to be the best thing I purchased. To all those who say all you need to breastfeed is breasts (and a baby!), that's great, if you're lucky enough to be able to do so without any problems. However, as someone who had problems and was lucky enough to get lots of help and support, I found this set to be essential. I was so glad I had it when my baby wouldn't feed the day after I got back from the hospital, as I really couldn't have coped with going out to buy a pump etc.
I expressed 4 times per day for 3 months to top up my baby's breastfeeds and found the electric pump excellent for keeping up! While it's true that some healthcare professionals say you don't need to sterilize breastfeeding equipment, I found it reassuring to use the steriliser. The bottles were great in the early days, although we switched to Dr Browns later, and I still use the breast shells 7 months on to ease engorgement. The nipple cream was also useful in the early days; obviously the other creams in the set aren't essential.
I still use the cups now to store food, as well as breastmilk.
If you are worried that you might have issues breastfeeding and you can get this set at a good price (under £100) I would say go for it. You will use most of the components, even if not straight away.
If you don't want/can't afford the set, bear in mind that you can contact your local maternity unit/breastfeeding support network/La Leche League to arrange the loan of a pump if you need it to help you continue breastfeeding.
