Product Description

Product Description

Inverted or non-protractile nipples are a reality for large numbers of women, causing psychological distress and making breastfeeding difficult for mother and baby. Inverted nipples occur because of short lactiferous (milkbearing) ducts which tether the nipple and prevent it projecting.

The Philips AVENT Niplette is a simple and painless device that can be used by women of any age to correct inverted or non-protactile nipples. Using suction to gently stretch the lactiferous ducts over time, it can be tucked discreetly inside the bra and can achieve a permanent correction between one and three months of continuous use, for eight hours per day.

I bought this recently as I am hoping it will help me to breastfeed by correcting my inverted nipples. However, I didn't realise that you can't use the product during the last trimester of pregnancy and as I received it only a couple of weeks before I started my third trimester, I have only been able to give it a quick try. On my initial go of the product, I was amazed that the syringe pulled out my nipple completely into the plastic cup. I have found it very easy to tuck the product into my bra for just sitting around the house to allow it to work its magic while I stay in the comfort of my home and also when I'm in bed. I think you could go out and about if you were wearing a jumper or loose clothes but I haven't braved that yet! I was only able to use the product for about a week but I noticed that my nipples stayed out for over a week after I stopped using the product and although they have gradually receded (although not as far back in as they used to be), I can see that if you use this long term then it will do as it promises. According to the instructions, I should be able to use the syringes to pull out my nipple when I do want to breastfeed. I am happy to give this a try and am fairly confident it will work. I would have preferred to have corrected my 'problem' prior to getting pregnant but I didn't know about the product back then. I have noticed a few reviews mentioning that it is painful. I haven't found that it is painful but think that it could be if you try and be too ambitious and over suction. I think it's worth doing this slowly but surely so that you get maximum results with minimum discomfort.

I bought this device in early pregnancy as I was worried that my flat nipples would make it difficult to breasfeed. It really does work - I've had great results after using it for just a few weeks.

However, it's a bit annoying to use. At first I found it impossible to wear it for the recommended amount of time because I couldn't get it to stay on! Anything brushing against the `cups' made them lose suction and fall off, which meant wearing them at night a no-no. In the end I got round the problem by wearing them with medela breast shells and a bra on top, which kept them on all night.

I also had a problem with one of the syringes popping off the end of the tube - it only did this with one of the cups for some reason and was fine with the other.

The first time I wore them all night I woke up feeling really sore, so I had a break for a couple of days and then built up the time I wore them gradually. After that it was fine and didn't hurt at all.

I'm now using supple cups (from a US website) instead, which work on the same principle, and in my opinion they're much better and simpler. They look like rubber thimbles, they stay on really well and there are no syringes to fiddle around with. So while the Niplette does work, I'd recommend Supple Cups instead if you want to try this kind of product.

Works!!!! 14 Nov 2010
I bought this recently, I am not pregnant - but hope to soon!, Was thinking ahead and wishing to breast feed in case I do get pregnant (Fingers crossed)I got these Niplette Twin pack.

How it works: There is needle-less syringe which you click on to the niplette. You draw out the syringe there by creating a vacuum that the niplette stays on to you nipple. Oh yeah it can pull those inverted nipples right out - in one go - if you get the syringe working. They do stay on for a long while (I mean the niplette). Seems simple - but truly ingenious if you ask me. No intrusive surgery what's so ever. Just a little patient wearing whenever you can.

Pros: 1. They are extremely simple to use, its so intuitive you don't even need to read the user guide.
2. 2 separate set of niplette and syringe, which can be neatly put away in a very nice plastic container each when not being used.
3. No pain at all (or just a little tingling when you first use it - but honestly no pain what so ever when you wear them).
4. I think they will work - I have tried them on only for the last week or 2 - I should say - seen a weee improvement - so I can see that the longer you wear it the more permanent the effect.

Cons:
1. If you looking for a quick fix - Nope this is not the one for you.
2. It creates a little bit of soreness around the tips after use. I think I should have gone with the suggested pairing and bought the soothing cream. (Though I think be other creams may work just as well)
3. They are not the easiest to wear - and have a lot of layers on you. I try to just do it in the night when I am back home, I find that its kind of hard for the vacuum to hold if you have layers of clothing to add one - once you have them on. (Don't blame the product - they are not like industrial grade vacuum!!). Just think the timing to wear them will be more if you are at home and at ease.
4. I think you have to be quite regular at your use of this - till the effect is achieved.

Will update this post after the long term wearing (Say 5 months)- Till then 4 stars it is!.

If you have type 1 or 2 inverted nipples this product will do the job. They can be worn around the house quite inconspicuously under loose clothing.
