The 21" 21PT5409/05 from Philips is a very affordable television ideal for those wanting something a bit larger than a standard portable, but without the additional cost of unnecessary features. The 21PT5409/05 comes with a Real Flat picture tube that delivers a high contrast and non-distorted life-like picture with stereo sound well dispersed via two on-board speakers.
The 21PT5409/05 is plug and play for easy installation; so connect an aerial, switch it on and it will automatically start the quick installation process. The first time you switch on the television, a menu appears on the screen and the tuning starts automatically. All the available TV programs will be stored. This operation takes a few minutes. The display shows the progress of the search and the number of programs found. At the end of the search, the menu disappears. 
The full function remote control gives you access to all the available features including pre-set image settings. Other features include Teletext, on-screen information and a sleep function that will switch off the television after a designated time.
TV programs are broadcast with NICAM digital stereo sound. It offers CD quality sound with a high immunity to noise and signal degradation. It can be used with mono, stereo and Dolby Pro Logic braodcasts. The integrated tuner of this product is fully equipped to decode the NICAM signal. Philips preset modes for Smart Picture and Smart Sound provide you with direct access via a single key on the remote control. You can select optimised picture and sound settings for the various picture modes such as Eco, Natural, Rich and sound modes such as movie, voice and music.
The flatter tube provides a wider viewing angle while minimising reflections for the best picture possible. The special alloy invar shadow mask helps maintain lighter focus and eliminate "colour blooming" as compared to standard tubes. Philips TVs will give you pure natural colours on screen. They display the most clear digital images and show the pictures that exactly the camera has captured. The picture tube allows for providing even and plain beams! Beams are projected evenly onto screen without deflection so a distinct picture with a three-dimensional feeling is reproduced without any distortion. Philips TVs feature protection against rays emitted from screen even during long time watching. They produce grand and magnificent sounds without Super-Woofer or Tweeter.

I recently purcahsed this television after my mums TV broke down and I gave her my 32" JVC widescreen tele which was far too big for my bedroom. For the price, this TV is fantastic. The picture quality is superb, the flat screen certainly is far superior to old style convex screens. The sound quality is superb. Having the speakers on the sides of the TV is a bit strange at first but it creates an atmospheric sound and considering the quality of the audio from these speakers it's pretty awesome.
I use this TV primarly for console gaming and for that it excels. The "smart" audio/picture controls are very useful, allowing you to change the picture/sound at the click of a button to one of three pre-programmed settings which all have their different uses, or you can alter the picture to your liking. The only thing that does disappoint is that you can alter the speaker balance but not bass/treble. Not a huge issue but one all the same.
Also, Amazon.co.uk states that this television does not come with a stand. Erm, well mine did!? Nothing special but it it's still a stand. Quite confusing...
All in all, if you're not after some kind of uber television or you want something for a bedroom that offers very decent quality at a very reasonable price then chances are this will fit the bill pretty well.

i completley agree with the first review-it's fantastic, the sound is amazingly clear but it's vey thick at the back it is too big but other than that....strongly recomended!
This is in the playroom hooked to an Xbox. Many hours of entertainment for the kids. Working fine.
