The high-definition (HD tuner not included) ready, 1,280 x 768 WXGA LCD panel uses the latest panel technology, such as Philips' proprietary Crystal Clear package of innovations featuring a 3D digital comb filter (eliminates dot crawl and colour bleeding, enhancing fine detail, cleaning up image outlines, and removing most extraneous colours), Dynamic Contrast for deep blacks and pure whites, and green and blue colour enhancement. The high 600:1 contrast ratio gives you better subtle color details and the ability to see the picture in bright light conditions, and the 25-millisecond response time means it's capable of handling fast-moving action without image blur or lag.
Active Control delivers the best picture setting, any time, from any source. The incoming signal is automatically analyzed and key picture settings, like sharpness, colour, and contrast, are adjusted. The 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio is the best for viewing HDTV and DVDs so you can have a more realistic cinema experience, but the TV has zoom modes for viewing 4:3 analogue broadcast TV and pan-and-scan-formatted video.
Built-in flat speakers (4 watts per channel) sit on either side of the active-matrix TFT LCD, giving you full stereo sound without needing to connect to an external speaker system. Virtual Dolby Surround sound support simulates cinema surround sound effects without the need for rear speakers. Philips' Smart Listening auto volume leveling eliminates drastic volume spikes while changing channels or when channels go to a commercial break.
Other features include fantastic 176-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles, 100 preset channels, Autostore for easy tuning, Auto Picture (five modes give you picture settings for different types of programming), Auto Sound (four modes to tailor the TV sound to enhance what you're watching), multi-language onscreen display, sleep timer, integrated tuner and RF jack for terrestrial reception, ergonomic remote control, and an anti-reflective screen.
Want to do more than just watch TV? The 17PF4310 has a rear SCART socket, and a component input that helps minimize digital and line-scan artifacts during DVD playback. And, because the TV is progressive scan, it can take advantage of the more film-like images produced by progressive-scan DVD players. It has a VGA input too, which receives the signal from your PC so you can use it as a TV and a PC monitor. A set of side jacks has a composite A/V input with S-video, a mini headphone jack, and an audio in for using the TV's speakers with your PC.

All Round Fantastic TV,
This review is from: Philips 17PF4310 17" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV (Electronics)
At 17" you might think a bit on the small side. But if it's for a bedroom or kitchen (or what takes your fancy) then it will definately be a complement to the room. A must say I find it stands out from other LCD's I have seen, with a very sleek, modern, silver finish.Performance wise, the TV can deliver some very impressive images (of course this will depend on the source). But with a good aerial, terrestrial pictures are rich, sharp and vibrant. Got freeview? With an RGB image running through a relatively good scart cable I have experienced some very clear, very sharp images which was much to my surprise. However, if scart is not for you, the TV still leaves you room with an S-Video connection, composite phono in, Left/Right audio phonos in and even a DVI-I socket for those with compatible HD/Upscaling equipment (with a seperate stereo jack connection in for audio). The stereo speakers at only 2W each are a definite improvement from the likes of a portable CRT mono speaker and such alike. Overall they deliver a good performance. But then I would not expect much more from a TV of this size. The remote is well laid out, with an array of quick-access buttons, including; The menu involves a basic (in comparison with more 'home-theater' screens) picture, sound adjustment, tuning functions and various other mini-features. All menu commands use the centre directional keys on the remote and I find navigating a breeze. To sum up, it's a very well packed TV for it's size, and although it comes with a price it certainly delivers some bang for your buck. It may not have everything, but for what it's made to do, it does very well. And the picture quality, after being so used to CRT definition, has impressed me (and I can be hard to please!) So for this and everything on top, I gave it the five stars.

A nice television, but there's no HDCP support...,

This review is from: Philips 17PF4310 17" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV (Electronics)
With regard to the debate on whether this television is really "HD-Ready" or not, I took another reviewer's advice and contacted Philips Customer Care asking if this TV supports HDCP. Their reply: "With regards to your query we can advise that unfortunately the 17PF4310 is not HDCP compliant".
So, although this will support un-protected HD feeds (such as an Xbox 360), you won't be able to watch any Blu Ray or HD-DVD films, or any content-protected broadcasts, without the image being scaled down to normal resolution. Hope this clarifies things!

Good Quality Great Value..but not perfect but 360 compatible,

This review is from: Philips 17PF4310 17" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV (Electronics)
I bought this TV when Amazon where first advertising it as 'HD Ready'. Now this is true..but to a limited extent. The HD works through the DVI so for example if you wanted to use it through your XBOX360 (like me) you will need to get a DVI to VGA adapter(i got mine on ebay for less than a fiver) then you need the HD VGA 360 lead and your away, once you have put the sound on channel 'AV' and the vision on 'PC'.If you are not using this TV for a 360 console then it is still a great piece of kit for TV and DVD's sound is great too. Cheapest HD on the market, 360 compatible, great anyway!
