Disapointing 3 May 2006
Format:Hardcover
Just got this book, and I was really looking forward to reading it since I really like the character Philip Marlowe.

I was misled by the books title. It's not a guide to life at all. It's just a collection of quotes taken mostly from Chandler's three most known books.

On the bright side the quotes are good, and they are well put together. But you might as well spend your money on "The Big Sleep" and "Farewell, My Lovely" and "The Long Goodbye". Same thing.

good for a flick through on the loo if you have never read any marlow. if you have already read marlow give it a miss as it is just a compilation of extracts from the books. if you want to introduce marlow to a friend it might work but it's a bit on the lightweight side

Mini Marlowe 25 April 2012
By T. Bently VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
This handsome, pocket-sized book is a collection of pithy quotations from the pages of the classic Philip Marlowe detective stories of Raymond Chandler.

The cover is a bit disingenuous since it gives the impression that Chandler wrote the tome himself. In fact, it's been put together by Chandler fan Martin Asher (who 'divides his time between Connecticut and New York'). I'm also not sure it's a particularly good introduction to the books - they don't need any introduction or enticement at all. You can just jump straight in to The Big Sleep or Farewell My Lovely and begin the enjoyment immediately.

However, for people have already read the series, this is a nice reminder of some of the highlights. I particularly appreciated the clear, high-quality presentation - the pages look as if they've been dashed out on an old-fashioned typewriter, such as Chandler (or Marlowe!) himself might have owned.
