This handsome, pocket-sized book is a collection of pithy quotations from the pages of the classic Philip Marlowe detective stories of Raymond Chandler.
The cover is a bit disingenuous since it gives the impression that Chandler wrote the tome himself. In fact, it's been put together by Chandler fan Martin Asher (who 'divides his time between Connecticut and New York'). I'm also not sure it's a particularly good introduction to the books - they don't need any introduction or enticement at all. You can just jump straight in to The Big Sleep or Farewell My Lovely and begin the enjoyment immediately.
However, for people have already read the series, this is a nice reminder of some of the highlights. I particularly appreciated the clear, high-quality presentation - the pages look as if they've been dashed out on an old-fashioned typewriter, such as Chandler (or Marlowe!) himself might have owned.
