Professor Philip Burnard is a well known author, lecturer and researcher in the fields of counselling and communication. He has written 38 books and more than 300 journal papers. His books have been translated into Russian, Norwegian, Malay, Japanese and German. Editions of his books have also been published in India and the USA.
His titles have run to 3rd and 4th editions. They have become standard textbooks and are popular with students. A reviewer of his Counselling Skills for Health Professionals wrote: "Wow what a book! A fantastic easy to read formula, very informative and highly recommended to anyone working with people."
Professor Burnard was made a Fellow of the Florence Nightingale Foundation for, 'an outstanding contribution to nurse education and for the promotion of international understanding'. In 2012 he was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing.
Philip Burnard is currently Emeritus Professor of Nursing at Cardiff University. He lives in South Wales and is married with two grown up children. He plays jazz and blues piano, likes 20th century classical music and also seeks silence wherever he can find it.
