Product Description

Product Description

This SLx Indoor DAB radio aerial from Philex is ideal for people in a moderate signal area who suffer DAB reception interference and signal drop out from time to time.

This non-amplified free-standing DAB Digital Radio Aerial can make all the difference to less than perfect signal reception. If, however, you currently get no signal at all, it probably will not help much.

Having recently purchased a Denon DM38 CD/Dab Unit, I found that the supplied Dab aerial gave variable results where I had the Unit located (by a very thick stone wall in a canted cupboard). In the daytime the signal was fine but during parts of the evening a digital bubbling could be heard under the audio signal. The Philex aerial was very simple to install, unscewing the existing "T" aerial cable and screwing in the F-Connector on the end of the new aerial cable was the work of 30 seconds. The aerial rod screws into the base and sits vertically with a rubberised cover on the base-plate to avoid scuffs. There's a reasonable amount of cable, but I located the aerial immediately behind the Dab Unit in the cupboard where the Unit is kept. By chance, the height of the aerial fits exactly to the top of the inside of the cupboard and is invisible from the outside. So far the aerial is performing very well with 80% signal and no distortion. I'll revisit this review after a few days experience.

I bought a Sony CMT-BX70DBi DAB Micro HiFi System with Built-In iPod Dock earlier in the year but was unable to get any DAB signal. After numerous and failed attempts I contacted Sony who basically said I would need to purchase an additional aerial.

I wasn't happy with this as I already had two other DAB radios (Pure and Goodmans), both of which functioned perfectly well using the basic aerial that was suppled but, wanting to use the DAB element of the Micro HiFi, I looked for a suitable product.

This Philex product was recommended and proved to be an excellent choice. Easy to connect and unobtrusive, it achieved what Sony alone could not.

Our DAB radio had intermittent signal and I was looking for a booster aerial. What I couldn't work out is how much to expect from the booster i.e. would it give me signal where there wasn't one, or how much could it boost a weak signal. So I thought it would be useful to explain the symptoms on our radio. Basically, we could find quite a few stations, and other than perhaps Radio 1, we would get signal for a bit, then it would cut out for a bit, and then it would come back in again and so on. So we bought this booster and it's completely fixed the problem. It's picked up some extra stations for us and every station now holds its signal perfectly. If your radio is in the same position, then this product will definitely meet your expectations.

It does what it says on on the box.
I use it with Sony CMT-BX77DBi and it does the job perfectly. I can receive all station listed for my area. Without this antenna DAB reception was really bad.

With no mention of how high this actually is, for some reason I had the perception that it was about 4ft! It is however about 12 inches, very discrete, easy to fit and works a treat. Recommended!

    Excellent!

I cannot rate this procuct highly enough. We live in an area where an outdoor aerial for consistently good DAB reception is seemingly essential. [We have had two outdoor aerials on the house for some years as a consequence.] I installed this little aerial almost at floor level in my conservatory without any real hope of getting a signal . To my amazement although there are some problems with positioning, placed appropriately the aerial pulls in a strong signal and provides excellent DAB reception. I now happily listen to all my favourite local and national DAB stations in situ without any interference.

    Fantastic!

    Highly recommended!

This item is an indoor DAB aerial - not a magic wand - and if no DAB signals are present it cannot conjure any up from out of thin air! However, it will work quite well in the medium to strong signal areas it was designed for.

The Philex 27741R is British designed and Chinese manufactured aerial which is suitable to replace some of the detachable aerials fitted to certain DAB radios via a screw-in F connector. It comes with a good metre or so of cable which is already terminated with an F connector so is ready to screw in once the original aerial is detached. It can also directly replace the wire aerials connected to some music centres featuring DAB radios.

This Philex has a heavy base which the aerial rod screws onto, and can be moved around easily to find the best reception spot in the room - without having to balance the whole radio in an awkward position! Windows sills and higher shelves are good places to try first. The aerial is quite compact and once in position is fairly unobtrusive. I am using this with a Denon S52 and it works much better than the supplied T aerial, and is also much easier to find a good signal with.

DAB is already an outdated technology which has many problems, but this aerial from Philex can help you get the best out of what the service offers. It is certainly not rubbish!

This aeriel works superbly upstairs but would not receive a signal downstairs and I'm supposed to be in a strong signal area. Although it is made to stand vertically I've found I receive a stronger signal lying it horizontally on top of the wardrobe cornice. My radio shows you the signal strength and on some of the stations I am receiving the maximum. I now receive 42 stations as against 28 with a VHF roof aerial.
I think its great value for the money.
