What we have here are two of the finest works by the MAGNIFICENT M.F.S.B. The "house" band for the legendary Philadelphia International record label comprised some of the greatest musicians of the time. The Gamble and Huff label gave us arguably the richest vien of soul music with the likes of Harold Melvin,Billy Paul, Lou Rawls,Archie Bell,Teddy Pendergrass, Jean Carn and a whole host of others. Quality was the key to everything they produced and the wonderful musicians of MFSB were the driving force behind this.Philladelphia Freedom from 1975 was a cracking album from start to finish starting with Zach Zachery's sax intro all the way through to the frantic "The Zip". In between "Get down with the Philly sound" is what it's all about, great dance music with a real edge. Their version of Elton's Philadelphia Freedom will never be bettered."South Philly" is a real lush laid back sound as is the War classic "Smile Happy" The other amazing track is "Brothers and Sisters" which is so uplifting and if you can't move your feet to this speak to your GP right away!!
And so to "Summertime". This would be in my top 5 albums of all time!! Picture the scene 1976 blistering sunshine day after day and then this album was released. The icing on the cake..The cherry on top..However you want to describe it this is the GREATEST Summer album EVER! Pointless going through track by track because they are all works of art that stand for everything that was Brilliant about TSOP(The sound of Philadelphia)Please for under £10 I urge you to treat youself to some of the greatest music ever released. YOU NEED THESE!!
As a P.S.we should never forget the contribution of the three awsome background singers with MFSB Carla Benson, Barbara Ingram and Evette Benton every lyric sung to harmonious perfection!!
