5.0 out of 5 stars Clear and persuasive introduction to Phenomenology, 16 Feb 2007
By Self-help junkie (Birmingham, England) - See all my reviews

I highly recommend this book to anyone thinking of undertaking qualitative research. The author cleary and succinctly guides us through some of the most important philosophies which underlie phenomenological research methods, and thus enables us to think more clearly about what each of these methods of research is actually trying to achieve. Clarity of understanding about the PURPOSE of methodologies is essential when attempting to choose one which will adequately meet the purpose of the chosen area of research. This is a book I will return to many times as I undertake my Doctorate level research - I recommend it to anyone at any level of study who needs guidance in the area of qualitative research.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read and with some good examples, 5 July 2009
I found this book (and many of the author's books) easy to read, follow and understand. I would say the scope of the topics presented i.e. phenomenological perspective of psychology are well covered although I'm saying this as a student i.e. not a professional reader as such I might have missed something although I pretty much doubt it.

Subsequent from this purchase I also bought another book specifics to one of the phenomenological approach i.e. IPA Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis: Theory, Method and Research: Understanding Method and Application and I can recommend both. BTW, the author is one of the Open University Social Psychology course team so the the book was written with a method and layout that easily comprehend from new students to I guess, professional (cognitive soc.) alike.
