Book Description

1 Jan 2009 0853697248 978-0853697244 1
Pharmacy Case Studies offers a holistic and integrated approach to learning, which textbooks often lack. Case studies of increasing complexity tie in the strands of learning from across the pharmacy curriculum. Primarily aimed at pharmacy students and pre-registration pharmacists, this book will also be useful for qualified pharmacists as well as medical students, nurses and others with a professional interest in therapeutics. Each chapter contains five case studies with questions and answers increasing in complexity from those for first year students through to cases designed for fourth year/pre-registration level. The chapters loosely follow the order of the British National Formulary chapters for ease of use. Case study scenarios include both community and hospital pharmacy situations as suited to the disease and pharmaceutical care provision.

There are not many books around based on pharmacy case studies. In fact I think there are only 2 worth considering, this one and another written by Dodds. I think Dodds's book is more tailored to the hospital setting (hence "Clinical" appears in title). So for the community setting this book is a good resource to have- it aids MURs, NMS, patient queries, GP queries. In regards to GP queries- I had one such query and with the help of this book I was able to make a good suggestion to the GP. I also found this book handy for a CPPE focal point, which I booked at the last minute- hence little time to prepare for the focal point, but with this book (and to be frank I also resorted to Dodds's clinical case studies) I was able to perform well at the focal point. If you have got spare time or CPD time- this is worth a look.
