Brilliant, but I would recommend the 2-disc version instead,
This review is from: Phantom of the Opera [Selected Highlights] (Audio CD)
The title of this review pretty much sums up my opinion. The music on this CD is undoubtedly brilliant, and I feel that the film version adds an emotional depth to the score and story that wasn't quite so powerfully present in the show version. Michael Crawford was (and is, I suppose) a brilliant singer, but Gerard Butler portrays his character's emotions through his voice and brings the Phantom to life brilliantly- almsot too brilliantly, as I find myself crying every time I listen to this CD. For this reason, I find this version much more enjoyable to listen to than the show version (I admit I own both!) However I would recommend that, if you plan on buying the film soundtrack, you opt fot the 2-disc version over the single disc, as, for only a couple more quid, you get so much more material in the 2-disc edition which brings the depth and range of the score across far more successfully than this one, which is more like a CD of highlights (although in my opinion it leaves out some of the best stuff, for example Wandering Child, which I absolutely adore, and Stranger Than You Dreamt It, which is so amazing, brilliant, emotional and sad that I can't believe they left it out! Both of these only appear on the 2-disc version, which is reason enough to choose it over this one.) Plus, the 2-disc version contains absolutely gorgeous pictures and information in a presentation booklet... :D I would strongly recommend buying the soundtrack- in fact, you're nuts if you don't- but the 2-disc version is, in my opinion, a better, more in-depth listen, and much better value for money when it's only marginally more expensive than the skimpy single disc.

Since I bought this CD, I am hardly stop listen to the songs. Especially "Point of No Return", "Down Once More" because these songs had shown the cast dedication to delivered the best performance from their part. Actually, I am a die hard fan of the original cast CD, but I do not have a chance to see the stage peformance. The film had fulfill my need to put the face and action of the story and it brought me a mixed feeling to the end with tears on my face. I do appreciate Mr. Butler for his dedication, I had misjuded his abilities to sing and express his emotion through the mask and off the mask (Who would have thought that he could pulled it off beautifully after watching him in Tomb Raider and Timeline, an action hero, I must say. Sorry about that!!). Right now, I have seen this film 3 times and anxiously waiting for the CD complete version and film companion which I have been order from Amazon to be arrive very soon. I recommended you all to see the film, own the CD. It will grow on you and it worth every penny you pay.

Beautiful Vocals,
By A Customer
This review is from: Phantom of the Opera [Selected Highlights] (Audio CD)
I saw the movie earlier this week, somewhat dubiously, with some girl friends. Not long after, I found some of the original songs by Sarah Brightman. Well, in my opinion, Sarah has a very operatic voice, but for a little less 'oomph' of a version, Emmy Rossum was fabulous. I heard that the 18 year old beauty did all the vocals herself, and she hits all the right notes and sounds, as the Phantom says, like an angel. Gerard Butler (very handsome once you get over the disfigurement) sings his part of the Phantom with sensuality, at times grief, and a powerful strength sounding equally wonderful. For those who cannot be bothered to sit through the movie (though the casting, sets and costumes were wonderful, some of the songs did tend to drag on a bit, for what you perhaps wanted in a movie), the CD lets you listen to the songs whatever you want. My personal favourites are "Point of No Return", "Music of the Night" and "Phantom of the Opera" (of course!) If you never got to see it at the theatre, as I'm afraid I didn't, the movie offers you the perfect opportunity. And with vocals like those shown on the big screen, I am glad I bought this to that of the original cast. And for the movie, it is definitely one of those 'must see' movies of the year, and is no wonder that it has been nominated for multiple awards already.
