3.0 out of 5 stars A bit of a let down 24 Sep 2010
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Well as soon as I heard about PS0 I was cynical about how good it would be compared to PSO and PSO Ver2 on dreamcast as well as PSO ep 1&2 on GC that I've played throughout my life but after reading the reviews I decided to take a chance on it... Part of me wished I didn't, don't get me wrong its a good game but like most of the DS games I've got over the years, they have been cheep imitations of amazing games. Starting with the positive points, the story and characters are good which was one of the few things I disliked about the originals although they have the gentle whiff of tacky anime they do have some personality to them. The second possessive thing about it is the game play, simple pick up and play quality to it with a nice but awkward dodging system. Now to the bad points, it's just too short and too easy! The originals may have been relatively short but made up for it with the jumps in difficulty between areas which forced you to go back to replay areas every once in a while but PS0 has nothing like it, you can just casual stroll through the game without worrying about dying which just takes all the fun out of it for me. The other bad point is there is no such thing as rare in PS0, by the time I got to the battle with falz I had already collected enough grinders, photon drops and materials to know what to do with and most of the rare weapons aren't that powerful to bother with.

So all in all it's a good game but just not enough of it, it's like gourmet food, it's great while it lasts but leaves you wanting more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Old School! 13 Aug 2010
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I spent waaaaay too much time playing Phantasy Star for the Dreamcast but was horrified by the xbox version, which IMHO just felt like a lazy port. As a result, I was really sceptical when I started playing PS0. I needn't have been. This is a wonderfully fun game, very true to earlier versions. It poses enough of a challenge for experienced players, yet the controls are simple enough that anyone can pick it up and enjoy.

My only real complaints are that the main plot arc is rather short (though there are new quests to complete, once you've beaten the big boss) and that the camera gets REALLY annoying. If you can struggle through the first few quests though, you do get used to it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to basics 6 Oct 2009
By S. Walker VINE VOICE
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
After spending countless hours on the GameCube release of Phantasy Star Online I was a little disappointed with the PSP game Phantasy Star Portable (although 2 looks much better). Then this came along and it just felt right.
You can play online with random people WITHOUT the need for friend codes. You can relax and not worry about which photon art to give your character. You can attack the monsters with ketchup guns!!
The visual chat is just the icing on the cake. Great stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Phantasy Start Zero! 13 Oct 2010
Verified Purchase
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This game is going to apeal to fans of the Phantasy Star franchise more than your average gamer... this is a great shame, For those who have played Phantasy Star Online you will be right at home here, but for those new to the game, Phantasy Star Zero is a free to play multiplayer online game similar to other mmos except that this one is on your gameboy! The game hosts up to 4 players online of various classes and races battling through dungeons and fighting huge bosses in your endless quest to level up and become more powerfull. The game itself has an Offine mode with a story mode that is good, or rarther better than most story plots. At the end of which you get rewarded with hard mode and more. You can take your offline character online at the same level, With the option to upgrade all your gear and weapons and a basic comunication system that allows you to communicate with players in other parts of the world. Oh and you get different story arcs dependent on your race and class!

Great game, but others might find it boring if mmo's are not your thing.
