One rare event where the sequel is better than the orginal. I enjoyed PHANTASM 2 & 3 more than part 1, I must say. This one is eerier and more atmospheric. I really can't decide which is the best of the series, part 2 or 3.
What sets this series apart from most other horror films is that it's so DIFFERENT. It actually has a STORY, it does not solely revolve around brutal onscreen killings. In fact it is not as violent or gory as it is said to be (re-rated with a 15 Cert., but uncut). PHANTASM 3 has lots of great ideas and cannot be taken seriously at times, although I wouldn't put it into the fun-splatter genre.
I didn't really care for the introduction of Kevin Connors in part 3 as an eight-year-old who can shoot than anyone else and drive a car, seems a little absurd.
Nonetheless, I loved this film and can strongly recommend this to anyone who enjoys horror/sci-fi and wants more than the usual Freddy/Jason massacres.
