This is far from being the cheapest head torch in the market, but it is certainly one of the best. The weight is reasonable, not as light as some modern head torches, but incomparably better than the sort of thing we were using 10 years ago, which took four type D batteries and ran out in a few minutes. If you use the LED option on this one it will last for ages.

It is supposed to be waterproof to 5 metres. I haven't tested this, but I do know that it keeps going in the rain, and can certainly withstand a few minutes immersion in a pond if you accidentally drop it.

If your work, like mine, sometimes involves being out at night and you want something you can rely on, and which leaves both hands free, then I recommend this torch wholeheartedly. If you only want a head torch for casual use something cheaper will probably do the job.

Part of my job involves regulary inspecting tunnels, these are often damp and I needed a headtorch that wouldnt break easily. The petzl has been good so far with my only mild critisism being that I thought the torch would be slightly brighter than it is, the LEDs work well though.

A light I have had before. Compact and good value for money and easy to add upgrades as it's not as bright as I like.

I bought the headlamp to replace an identical model that was stolen, which I had for 5 years. It never failed me once.

My husband LOVES it. VERY bright and high quality. This is his second Petzl lamp and he is happy with their headlamps. We have recommended this to all of our friends who love the outdoors.

Great first light 4 Mar. 2013

Great quality. Not as bright as I was hoping for. Ok in smaller caves, but light will be eaten in bigger ones. Also halogen useless.... unless you're really low on battery.

Professional quality but not as bright as I would have hoped. 16 Nov. 2012

Excellent quality. I'm sure it will last a lifetime, but not as bright as what I need when I was looking for a headlamp to see up close and far away.

Cheap quality ! 10 Jan. 2014
By Scott - Published on Amazon.com
I got this headlamp free from work. I had an option between this and another brand. I immediately went with the Petzl. Usually a solid choice...right??? Being a wildland fire fighter for the last ten years, an avid duck hunter and camper In my off time.. I have been through some headlamps. Petzl usually delivers on a decent product.. But like anything you pay for what you get. Of course they offer the $20-$50 dollar gas station type head lamps.. Every brand does. But i was shocked when I looked up the price on this. A $100 is a joke! I currently utilize the Petzl MYO RXP. Same price.. way better quality. Half the size, more lighting options, 3 battery (AA). If any one is contemplating buying this Duo LED 5, please look up the MYO. You won't be disappointed.

Ok back to this head lamp.. Everything has that cheap plastic feel. The battery pack is huge and bulky. The bulbs offer led and halogen, but neither are impressive. One nice feature is that you can adjust the halogen for distance but it' really does not make a big difference. The front part (where the light illuminates) is in a fixed position. You can not adjust it to the angle you want. The inner parts that hold the bulbs are all cheaply made. I could continue but I think you understand my distaste for this particular petzl.

Again I got this free today... So if after using it for awhile it changes my mind, I will retract this review. But if I would have paid money for it, I would have put it back in the mail after 5 minutes. Hope this helps. And again check out the MYO RXP. I love mine.
