Product Description

Peanuts are an ideal food source and will appeal to a wide range of wild birds throughout the year due to their high content of natural oils, protein, essential vitamins and minerals. Although not a naturally occurring foodstuff for our native birds most species will readily accept them when offered and they are ideal to help wild birds through harsh or demanding times. The whole peanuts should ideally be fed from a peanut feeder, but they can be fed from bird tables and the ground, however, during the breeding season we recommend only feeding the split or broken peanuts to reduce the risk of a choking hazard for hatchlings and young birds. Peanuts can be contaminated by a fungus which produces a poison known as aflatoxin which is harmful to birds. Twootz.com select only peanuts which fall below the maximum permitted levels in law for aflatoxin to ensure the safety of wild birds.

Bought the peanuts as they were reasonably priced however they are very crumbly with lots of bits. Ok for the birds but quite a lot of waste.

These nuts come largely as a mess of broken and trashy bits. Now, on the face of it, if your feeding small birds, that shouldn't matter but our experience has been with larger peanut bird feeders is that the trash and dust retains the damp and as the small bits and dust fll down through the larger pieces, they condense around the bottom and very quickly become mouldy and sticky which means that you have to pressure hose the feeder to get it adequately clean.

In short, not suitable for use in a wire mesh feeder and the slightly lower cost doesn't offset the waste and hassle. Altogether you're better with a whole-peanut offering and we won't be using these again.

These were cheaper than other sacks on the market, but when opened they were mainly broken peanuts. These fell through the feeder, but the birds still enjoyed them!

As many others have noted, these are poor quality nuts. Most are broken, some are black and shrivelled. The bits of skin are a real nuisance when filling the feeders - they float everywhere and make a real mess. Many of the nuts are small and get pulled through the wire mesh easily, meaning you have to refill them at double the rate. The first 2 sacks that I had (from 2 different sellers) were fine, but the last 2 have been sub-standard (sourced more cheaply?) Also, as noted by others, there is no longer any marking of 'safe' on the sack. I am now buying 'Extra Select Wild Bird Peanuts 25 Kg', which are top quality and with Subscribe and Save, are less than £2 more.

I bought these mainly for feeding the squirrels in an attempt to stop them attacking the bird feeders, but the birds love them as well. Okay, they are mainly "broken" nuts, but I'm sure the wildlife does not mind and at £1.40 per kilo they are saving me a small fortune. I still buy the (rather expensive) Aflatoxin tested whole nuts to fill the bird feeders but these are ideal for scattering, bird tables, and of course the furry-tailed tree dwelling rodents.

I give this rating because the peanuts are great to feed all the little birds, like the bluetits and gold finches, who come every day,and its great to watch them feeding, and rearing all thera young ones every year.and best of all at the price we pay we can afford to feed them all. thanking you arthurp

I have a steady stream of feathered and furry customers where I live with big appetites so this 25kg bag is a godsend...great value and they disappear as quickly as I can put them out so they must be good!Delivery was within a couple of days which was brilliant, but it does help if you visit the gym 'cos if you need to move the bag,it's quite heavy..for a mere mortal like me anyway!Buying nuts this way saves me about 30 quid as compared to High Street prices..which means I can afford to keep feeding our wonderful wildlife.
