Product Description
This is book 2 in the series. Peter and his Grandpa have built a miniature steam railway across their farm, linking their houses. It is a scenic journey, crossing fields, woodland and running beside a river. For Peter the great excitement of this book is learning to drive the steam engine, Fiery Fox. It is what he has been waiting for since they started to build the railway. Apart from one disastrous escapade, everything works as they intended. The story finishes with the railway running at night, taking Grandma to a surprise birthday dinner. They also extend the railway and build a turntable so the engine can always face forwards for pulling the trains. As with Book 1, the story is combined with lots of simply explained technical information and diagrams, contained in pages at the ends of relevant chapters. More parts of the steam engine and railway are explored.

Much more than just a good story, Peter's Railway explains engineering principles in layman's terms. So if someone you know wants to move on from Thomas and friends, or has an interest in live steam or miniature railways, then the Peter's Railway books will be excellent for them.
Peter's Railway - The Moonlight Express is the second book in the series, though there is no need to read the first book to enjoy this one. As with the first book, The Moonlight Express not only tells a good story, but is also highly educational, with 'how things work' illustrations and explanations. For example, The Moonlight Express explains boilers, cylinder valves, piston rings and points (switches). Woven into the text is a description of how to control a steam engine!
The Peter's Railway books are published by the author, Christopher Vine, and are high-quality, hardback volumes with 96 pages, many of which are illustrated. Excellent value for money.

I have 3 children aged 6-13, two girls and a boy and we all LOVE Peter's Railway. Enchanting stories with beautiful illustrations and clear, easy to understand diagrams. We think Peter's Railway should be used in schools, they are fantastic way to introduce children to Mechanics and Engineering with some Physics thrown in as well. We can't wait for number 3!

The most enjoyable books that I have read to my son, since Thomas The Tank Engine.
Chris Vine is a brilliant author and the stories are brilliant. Plenty of interest and pictures that make children ask those questions such as why can that do that etc....
