Okay, I'll admit that I didn't get these for myself, honest... I wanted my five year old to experience the joys of youth. One staple of a young boy's life should be the mild explosion and delicious smell of a fresh banged cap.
The only thing these are missing are the few penny sweets you got with the change from when you bought them at your local newsagent, before heading off into the grassy expanses of your childhood to shoot some baddies (and wasn't that always an argument worth having?)
Obviously you need a cap gun... Or a ten pence piece and a bit of hard board (I used the kitchen table, shhhhh, don't tell Mum). Reel out a length of caps and run the 10p along it and watch the sparks fly. It's exhilarating stuff, even 32 years away from my fifth birthday. The kids (5 and 14 (and 37) both thought it was fantastic. In the gun = winner. Watching Dad narrowly avoid burning his fingers with cries of surprise = winner.
You get two plastic tubes of tightly rolled caps. I have no idea how many there are, but plenty to give Clint Eastwood a run for his money.
Brilliant fun, and my kids now know how gunpowder works, how fantastic it smells and how to look cool in front of your kids ;)
Now, where can I get some Cola Bottles..?
