Product Description

Product Description

When Prokoviev premiered "Peter and the Wolf" in 1936 he can scarcely have foreseen quite how successful his playful classic would become or how consistently it would delight children of all ages for years to come. Now in a remarkable publishing venture, Bono and his childhood friend Gavin Friday of the Virgin Prunes have collaborated to produce an irresistible and enchanting version of the classic story in book form and enhanced CD. The beautifully produced hardback story book will contain 64 pages of Bono's original paintings - with help from his daughters Jordan and Eve - to illustrate the story. And the enhanced CD gives a totally fresh, funny and original rendition of the classic musical store, narrated in a sly and hilarious reading by Gavin Friday. Royalties from the project will be donated to the Irish Hospice Foundation - Bono's heart is especially close to this cause after the death of his father last year.

About the Author

Bono is the internationally acclaimed lead singer and writer of U2. Gavin Friday, one of Bono's oldest friends, is a musician, painter and film soundtrack writer, formerly of the Virgin Prunes.

A great find 7 Dec 2004
By A Customer
This is a magnificent and unpretentious version of the well-loved classic. The musical arrangement has a sort of folk band feel with banjo and accordian prominent in a rich, spritely and harmonious interpretation. Bono's husky Irish tones provide the perfect, simple narration which can be read along to in the fun complimentary book. Wonderful for children of all ages and not overly long - exciting all the way through.

Pornographic book 27 Dec 2005
By Carl - Published on Amazon.com
I'm not a prude when it comes to literature but I found the illustrations offensive for a child's book. The illustrations of the cat and Grandpa both depict human genitalia. In case you think that this is just my misinterpretation of the drawings, I polled multiple adults without telling them about the pictures and they all had the same conclusion. My 5 year old daughter did not like the modern Peter and we couldn't understand why the duck has such a ridiculous upper bill. The classic version of the story is better.

I enjoyed the accompanying music and narration- it is creative and not overdone. I would recommend purchasing the music CD separately.

Not worth it! 11 Nov 2004
By Liberal From Massachusetts - Published on Amazon.com
This purchase was a supreme disappointment!

Those familiar with the traditional rendition of Peter and the Wolf will immediately notice this versions diminished story line. Although the music was technically/creatively competent, the numerous omissions were a clear distraction.

The accompanying book was an absolute flog. Bono's illustrations were feeble, and at times inappropriate (especially the rendition of the cat). His jaunty presentation of Peter, wearing sunglasses, was an obvious narcissistic self-homage. Family and friends universally agreed that this book had a "negative feel" to it. I salute Bono and his musical talent... but he is clearly out of his depth with this book.
