The Broken Shore: A convalescing homicide detective returns to his hometown only to find his recovery interrupted by a case that leaves him standing alone, fighting against corruption and prejudice. In the Evil Day: Five people lie dead on the floor of a fortified Johannesburg mansion. In his hands the solitary survivor holds his death warrant. Powerful men - and powerful nations will kill to keep to keep the video tape in Con Niemand's grasp buried. The tape and the man must be erased… An Iron Rose: When country blacksmith Mac Farraday's best friend is found hanging, the assumption is he's committed suicide. But Mac is far from convinced: he's a man who has learned - the hard way - never to accept things at face value.

From the Back Cover

The Broken Shore: Haunted by his last case, homicide detective Joe Cashin has fled the city for his hometown. But his recovery is put on hold when a man is brutally attacked, and three Aboriginal boys charged. The simmering prejudice of the local community boils over - and Cashin finds himself standing alone in his fight for the truth. “A towering achievement that brings alive a ferocious landscape … seldom has a waltz of the damned proven so hypnotic” Guardian In the Evil Day: Five people lie dead on the floor of a Johannesburg mansion. In his hands, the solitary survivor holds his death warrant. Powerful men - and powerful nations - will kill to keep the videotape now in Con Niemand's grasp buried. The tape and the man must be erased. “A rip-roaring thriller that speeds like a bullet from an AK47 to its violent conclusion” Irish Times An Iron Rose: When Mac Faraday's best friend is found hanging, Mac's not convinced it's suicide, and he is a man who's learned - the hard way - not to take anything at face value. But if Mac is to discover why his friend died, he must turn to long-discarded skills and revisit a past he'd rather forget. “Pace and plot, along with a stylishly cool approach to prose push him above the rest” Daily Mirror

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Temple Omnibus including The Broken Shore 6 April 2010
Format:Paperback
Three brilliant crime thrillers in one. Peter Temple still seems relatively unknown in the UK but to my mind he is simply the best writer of original, unique stories, which are set in and around his native Melbourne. I read typically 2 books a week and he is No. 1. His dialogues are sharp and clever and better than any I have come across with any other author. I would put him in a similar category to Mark Billingham, another favourite, and right up there with Gerald Seymour.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dependably good 30 Aug 2013

Peter Temple is such a good writer, especially if you speak Australian. Tricky if you don't. But good stories and great dialogue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the Australia which I was expecting 1 Mar 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The Broken Shore is a marvellous crime novel with insightful characterisation and sense of place. It portrays that part of Australia which is NOT desert. The language could be described as "gritty", which may offend Agatha Christie readers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crime Writing With a Difference 13 Mar 2008
Format:Paperback
Have to say that I bought this on a bit of a whim - needed a long read for holiday! What a breath of fresh air! If you like detective fiction but also well crafted story lines do give this a read. OK some of the plots are not the most complex but the novels are really well written, with beautiful language and very down-to earth characters.
