Product Description

Product Description

Peter Shilton is a legend in football. One of the greatest goalkeepers to play in this country, his 25 clean sheets in one season at Nottingham Forest, and 67 throughout a lengthy international career are landmarks in the modern game. He started out at 15 with Leicester City, achieved fame at Stoke City, then won two European Cups and a League Championship medal with Forest. He's played in numerous World Cup campaigns (both successful and unsuccessful), was the keeper involved with Maradona's 'Hand of God', and, aged 40, was still playing with Derby County in the First Division while representing England at Italia '90. Throughout the nineties he became increasingly embroiled in gambling and related problems which culminated in near bankruptcy. The full story of his financial difficulties, numerous anecdotes concerning the likes of Brian Clough, Peter Taylor and Sir Alf Ramsey; in fact an entire three decades in football is covered in just under 400 pages.

About the Author

Very Enjoyable 29 Jan 2006
Format:Paperback
As a Leicester City supporter I found the blend between personal details and the "football world" a good balence, specifically in the early part of his career.
I came away feeling that I did understand him a bit more, without necessarily having probed into his detailed personal life too deep.
One to buy and read again!

fantastic but..... 31 Aug 2009
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book a few years ago and only recently got round to reading it.It is a fantastic story about one of England and the worlds greatest keepers. He tells you about his gambling problems and how he left Forest despite being one of the best paid players at the club.
He tells you about the good days and the not so good days at Plymouth.
One thing he does not mention is how he was sent off at Boothferry Park.
Even though he mentions about his 1000th game.
Altogether a throughly good read.

By Terry
Format:Hardcover
Peter Shilton walks you through his life and development as a professional goalkeeper. He was an innovative trainer and was always striving to improve his game throughout his long and successful career. Peter dedicated his life to the sport he obviously loved and gives his opinion on how the game has changed over the years. I found it intriguing to get his side of the story on the couple of incidents that made the front pages of the papers and how he managed to put all his personal problems to one side the moment he stepped onto the pitch. I am so glad everything has turned out well for this honest and remarkable man.
