Amazon.co.uk Review

It’s hard to remember a comedian that’s enjoyed anything like the far-reaching success of Peter Kay in recent years. A best-selling autobiography, writing and directing hit television shows, and a comedy tour that broke records are just some of his achievements, and there’s a strong flavour of what makes him so popular on this Stand Up Ukay DVD.

The disc is effectively a greatest hits collection of his stand-up comedy routines, apparently chosen by the British public. So therefore Stand Up Ukay brings together some hilarious work: Hob Nobs in the your tea, how people dance at weddings and the infamous garlic bread are examples of some of the material here. The disc is then rounded out with the music video to "I’m Gonna Be" (500 Miles).

Without doubt, Stand Up Ukay is a DVD packed with laughs, but conversely, there’s little getting away from the fact that it’s full of material that the majority will have seen and enjoyed before. That some of it is making its third appearance on a DVD release does sour the taste a little, too.

Still, if you’ve missed out what all the fuss about, then Stand Up Ukay is an excellent starting point. Everyone else is best being a little more cautious. --Simon Brew

DVD Description

Featuring classic routines especially chosen by the British public, including Garlic Bread, Dipping Biscuits, the dancing skills of people at weddings, as well as the video for the No. 1 smash-hit ‘(I’m Gonna Be) 500 Miles’.

With unique insight and interviews with the Great British Public, ‘Stand-up UK’ is a joyful celebration of not only the comedy of Peter Kay but of British humour in the 21st Century.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flogging a dead horse!, 15 Nov 2007

I honestly cant believe Peter Kay has the bare faced cheek to release this DVD. I fell for the last rehash DVD of old material in a new wrapper which really annoyed me, so to do it again is beggars believe!

I WAS a big fan of his, not anymore. If he ever does release new material i doubt i will buy it and I'm sure a lot of his fans feel the same about his obvious cashing in!

1.0 out of 5 stars what a con, 17 Nov 2007
If you have seen the brilliant Peter Kay at Albert Hall and the Blackpool Tower one then don't bother getting this at all- NO NEW STUFF. If you haven't seen either of his stand ups then still don't get this, instead get the box set of Albert Hall and Blackpool as they show you the whole stand up rather than just the 'best bits' in this joke. If no-one buys this then it might teach Peter a lesson and persuade him to actually do a bit of work and make some new material.

1.0 out of 5 stars Who is this DVD aimed at?.........., 21 Nov 2007
By S. Miller - See all my reviews

....I assume it's anyone who hasn't heard of and therefore seen any of Peter Kay's other DVDs...... which is a very small audience by now.

Well done money grabbing publishing right owners for releasing a DVD that deliberately avoids admitting on the back cover that it is a shameless "cheap-to-make cash-in" of previously released material mixed with interviews with people who probably now wish that they hadn't agreed to be interviewed.See-through deception and very cynical.

I hope Peter had nothing to do with this release..... and i hope he realises how it's damaging his reputation as a result.

He's a brilliant comedian. This smells of a "bad management" decision to me.

"My Mum wants a Bungalow" tour was ironic, this is NOT!
