Within a few decades his reforms had brought about changes from which no section of Russian life remained immune, paving the way for Russia's emergence as a major military power. By the time of his death in 1725, the man who greeted the birth of his son with the exclamation 'another recruit' had forged a dominant European power, and his legacy is still felt today. In this first of two volumes, Angus Konstam examines the organisation, tactics, uniforms and equipment of Peter the Great's infantry troops, in a text complemented by a multitude of illustrations, including eight full page colour plates by David Rickman.

Well at first I took a chance and paid over the RRP for the book [...]. However I was pleased because there was more relevant pages and there is more useful content than Volume 2 Cavalry. The historical introduction is nicely short. the Titles are good, the illustrations are excellent and the 'Tables' are very useful also for both wargamers and researchers alike. The only critiscm I have is there is no index in Volume 1 and the bibliography is in Volume 2 only.
I appreciate this is a difficult period to research but an excellent publication and I hope this book goes into reprint soon.
