Product Description

Product Description

Finally a cat flap with selective entry and exit... and no collar ! Your microchipped cat becomes the key to its very own flap with our Smart Flap Microchip Door !

No more losing the collar key in the garden or elsewhere. This door incorporates a microchip reader that will detect and scan your cat's microchip, allowing it in and out.

This state-of-the-art cat flap can be set up for 31 cats. Its light detector will allow you to keep your cat safely in at night. A warning tone lets you know when your cat has gone out or come in.

The Smart Flap is powered by both a cord and battery : in case of a power cut, your cat can still go through the flap... and if the battery runs out, it won't get locked out either.

Duration of the flap opening can be adjusted from 2 to 28 seconds to allow for slower, aging cats. The Smart Flap can be fitted in doors or windows.

A magnetic latch and combined draught excluder help keep the weather outside. The Smart Flap operates on low voltage.

1.0 out of 5 stars Petporte microchip cat flap - waste of money 27 Jun 2011
Verified Purchase
I bought a Petporte Smart Flap Microchip Cat Flap as I had problems with numerous cats, all with magnets, gaining access to my house through my original magnetic cat flap. I thought that a cat flap that recognised my cats' chips and let only them into the house was the only answer. All went well for a while, but then I came home to a miscellaneous cats in the house again. At first I thought that they had developed a way of pulling the flap out, to permit access, but closer investigation showed that the green catch that should lock the flap was no longer moving out of the housing, so the flap was open at all times.

I telephoned Petporte customer services this morning and spoke to an exceedingly nice lady. She informed me that this was a known problem with the cat flap, due to a wire being too short, and that there was no fix at the current time. She did suggest that I stuck a picture of a cat on the clear cat flap and that might deter the unwelcome visitors! I did point out that my expensive cat flap was completely useless and she agreed. Apparently Petporte are working on a new product that should resolve this issue.

Save your money, don't waste it on this product.

This is by far the most cool & practical product your cat could have. After 4 years of living in a village & none of the neighbouring cats coming through the conventional cat flap, a sneaky tom started entering the house eating our cats food & terrorising her. This is when we looked in to getting this petporte gadget. It has now been installed for about a month. The "click" sound, did for a short while, put her off using it but she soon got over that with the help of fresh cooked chicken & treats to encourage her through. She is now running in & out several times a day with no chance of other cats coming in. This is a truly fabulous product & well worth the money just for the peace of mind for you & your cat.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful! 27 Feb 2014

I bought this in readiness for my two kittens going outside.
After a tricky fitting- I realised there would be a stupid wire trailing across my back door and cat flap. Not ideal with two children going in and out.
The battery option is useless- as it adds on a ridiculous 'delay' which the cats don't like and it puts them off using it. The delay was so long on mine, they'd wandered off before it clicked open!
It does NOT make it clear that it needs to be mains operated at all times.

Now...the flap itself. Managed to bleep the cats microchips into the flap memory. All fine. Then, after a few uses, the green catch broke (stayed down instead of popping up). After hours trawling the internet, I found stories where other people had the same problem. The metal wire inside the mechanism is SO flimsy- it only takes a knock and it springs off, making the 'lock' useless. This is no good when the whole purpose of this flap is to keep unwanted cats out and allow your cats IN!!! Also- how weak is the catch if my two 8 week old kittens can knock it off by just using the flap!
By now I'm exasperated!

The only way to mend this wire, is to fully remove the front plastic panel (with a screw driver) and fiddle around on the floor with a torch. *** bear in mind- at this time, the clear flap has fallen out, the kittens suddenly all want to use the flap, and you drop the tiny silver screws somewhere never to be seen again***
This happens on a regular basis, so be prepared to follow this procedure often. Keep the screwdriver handy.

I've had to keep this awful flap- as I cannot return it is so expensive to replace. Now my cats are 7 months old, there is a cat next door that tries to terrorise them.

No problem for my 2 cats and stops unwanted cats calling. It was easy to install, also connecting the chips to the cat flap was a doddle.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke after 6 weeks waste of money 30 May 2014
Verified Purchase
They say it can run of batteries, it can but not any useful fashion, I had to put in a power socket by the back door to get this to work.
Oh yeah then it broke after 6 weeks and they wouldn't replace it.

Every electronic cat flap I've ever bought has broken after a few months, just get a magnetic one and be done with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems better 20 May 2014

I bought a white one of these in 2010 to keep out a couple of pesky neighbourhood toms. It worked mostly but one particular cat was strong enough to force his way through but on the whole we were happy and when we moved it kept all the cats out in the new area so worked a treat. this was the old model from before petsafe seemed to tie in with staywell. we went through a few power adapters as they seemed to blow whenever we had a power cut which was slightly annoying. It died completely a few weeks ago after 4 years and we initially resisted buying as they are not cheap (Despite the new version being about 30 cheaper than in 2010) but pretty soon our house became the marking post for all the local cats again so we shelled out for the updated staywell petsafe version and are not disappointed. The brown colour looks good and the plastics feel plusher. also, it now has an access panel to change the back up battery and a 3 year warranty. only problem was one of the shorter bolts supplied with the unit had a bad thread and would not screw in but i was able to cut down one of the longer spare screws to fit. sure it would have been swapped but couldn't cope with another morning of searching out cat spray.
