Pet Photography Now is one of a handful of books which are specifically to help us take better photos of our pets, and animals in general. In comparison to other fields of photography, animal photography is one of the least published subjects, and one of the most difficult to give advice on, given that it is so much a combination of both technical photography knowledge and hands-on learning to interpret and understand animals.
The book succeeds in presenting a wide range of information and advice to anyone who wishes to improve their animal photography. The book starts with general advice on camera equipment, lighting and many of the gadgets involved in photography which you could find in most photography books. It then moves on to in-depth information on every aspect of photographing animals. From how to act when first meeting animals, working with the owner, and different approaches to photographing animals, the information is presented in an easy to read way. The book contains many quality clear photographs, both to illustrate specific techniques, and as inspiration. Following sections deal with specific advice on photographing dogs & puppies, cats and kittens, smaller pets like rabbits, horses and birds. These sections are invaluable and the best I have read in several books of this type, having bought msot of them.
Later sections deal with a brief and general discussion of post production, including the authors advice on work flow, printing photos and digital display of your finished masterpieces.
The attention to informal style, detail, quality presentation and the fact that this is a very up-to-date book make this one of the best - if not the best - dealing with photographing our pets and animals I have found. And no i wasnt paid to say that.
