5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 19 Dec 2002
By A Customer
First things first.... if you can live with the name you will be the proud owner of a very small, light and quite highly specified mp3 player.

For a shade under £90.00 you get 64Mb of on-board memory (not expandable but its tiny so what do you expect?) a backlit LCD with artist, song and title support (ID3) and a reasonably fast USB connection.

This is a very small player and it fits snuggly into your hand with easy access to all the buttons and easy to use menu system for changing the contrast, repeat modes etc.

I tested this player using a set of plug metallic earphones and a Nofx album. Play this little beauty and full volume in Rock mode and you get NO bass distortion. The bass is very deep and it sounds great played nice and loud.

One of the features of the Chic is the facility to remember the position of the track you were listening to before it was turned off, a very good feature and one we know people will find very useful.

The Chic is available in two different colours - grey and blue.

My conclusion is that the Chic is a great sounding player and, value for money wise, it certainly gives some of our other players a good run for their money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple yet Stylish, 4 Dec 2002
By Elton John (England) - See all my reviews
This Simple yet stlylish player is one of the bargains on the market.
A few points about it:-
* It is incredibly easy to set up on win2000, and the fast (altho USB 1, unlike the newer 128MB version which is USB 2) transfer rate means that as long as the battery isn't near death you can use it for data transfer between non-networked machines, which is very handy.
* Again ignore all reviews listing it as 2 stacks of 32MB, the XP upgrade to the firmware sorts that right out into one stack of 64MB memory.
* Also ignore any review claiming inability to order the playlist. Tracks will play in the order in which they are dragged and dropped onto the removable disk in windows explorer. Sometimes you won't have time for this, but I like to order them in a temporary folder on the harddrive then drag and drop them myself, rather than copy all of them across at once and let them play in the order of which copied fastest. With 64 MB this won't take too long anyway.
* However despite what one reviewer says, I have kept updating the driver, but I am still unable to pause tracks. If I hit play/stop as he says, it defaults back to the beginning of the track. A minor flaw though.

In all, an excellent player for anyone who can update the content regularly and wants extreme portability. If you're not sure 64MB is enough for you however, consider splashing out on the newer, pricier 128MB version. 64MB will hold most albums in their entirety though!
