4.0 out of 5 stars Works for me! 10 Mar 2004
By L. Ross
As has been highlighted the DR201's reception isn't the best, but then neither did I find it terrible. With the aerial up but not extended I can get reception round town, and when fully extended I find the reception is perfectly adequate for most uses. The sound quality is excellent and the unit is wonderfully small (smaller than most of its rivals). The display is large and clear, and the controls are easy once you get used to them. The FM mode is functional but rather basic (no RDS). The MP3 player works well and reads ID3 tags, although the 64M capacity is a little low. The USB connection is standard mass-storage device so requires no drivers for more recent versions of windows. Battery life (2xAA) is up to about 8 hours with super high capacity rechrgeables. Whilst I'm sure there are more sensitive receivers out there, the convenience means I certainly wouldn't send mine back!

Very small and light and does not fill up the pocket. However, in use the aerial has to be extended which gets in the way if you are carrying it. Works well in areas of good signal strength - but very sensitive to changes in the signal - even just walking a few yards can loose a signal - which is not what I was looking for in a portable device. Works well and sounds good if sitting still with a good signal. Battery life is poor - only managed 4 hours on a set of Ni-MH batteries. Plus point is the integrated FM reciver, which fills in for the gaps in digital radio coverage. Overall nice idea but not sure the technology is yet up to truely portable DAB.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quality is poor 29 Jan 2004
By Michael Scott VINE VOICE
The build quality of this is poor and the built in speakers distorts badly at volume.
Average reception especially with DAB and cheap screen means that I cannot recommend this as a purchase.
Avoid.

2.0 out of 5 stars Perstel DR201 DAB Digital Radio 1 Mar 2004
By Redbean
Nice package, with cover, USB cable, headphones and AC adapter. Very light unit and a clear screen.
I would agree with mr thorley of Oxfordshire, on the signal reception and the battery life. Took a while to work out the tuning menu, could do with some presets. The PC interface works better with WinXP than 98. No driver for Apple lovers. DAB fails to work using an DC supply in the car(?)but signal floats about too much for motoring use. 64 mg is just enough to hold an average CD. I hear they are bringing out a memory card version. My advice, wait or until the price comes down.
