Product Description

Product Description

Personnel Practice is widely acclaimed as the definitive introduction to human resource management.

This new edition introduces students to key concepts and gives up to date coverage of legislation. Each chapter has a clear overview and concise summary, providing ideal points for revision and reference. The text also contains detailed sources of further information, alongside activities and case studies to test knowledge and link to practice.

TARGETED AT – It is designed specifically to cater for the CIPD Certificate in Personnel Practice as well as anyone seeking an overview of the subject area.

From the Author

When first appointed as a personnel manager in the nineteen eighties, after much experience in industrial relations, I found there was lots of personnel-related pragmatic knowledge that I was lacking. Years later, Tricia Jackson and I were tutoring on the Certificate in Personnel Practice (CPP) programme and we concluded that this course needed a suitable textbook that would provide the same essential practical material. I also felt that smaller businesses, not employing a personnel professional, would need much of this crucial information.

From the outset the, now Chartered, Institute of Personnel and Development were enthusiastic about the idea of a course textbook and their CPP syllabus provided an ideal structure and an excellent content guide. As you might expect, the book is now immensely popular with those on the CPP programme.

But we were particularly delighted that Bob Patchett, in his review for Croners Personnel Assistant Handbook, thought fit to state that: "the book is comprehensive and detailed enough to stand alone as a guide to sound practice in managing people".

The book does indeed seem to find a broad market and we hope it is making an appropriate contribution to the process of managing people successfully.

This book is very user friendly and very comprehensive. The book begins with an introductory chapter which talks the reader through each individual chapter and the thinking behind each chapter. From Corporate Law to Training & Development, this book is ideal for the beginner in HRM and/or Personnel. I read this book as a reading background to a Post Graduate Diploma course. I found it covered everything there is to know regarding HR work. It follows through with excellent references to industry and gives the reader excellent links to follow up on particular sections. A first class, comprehensive book ideal for the HR beginner!

An excellent guide for those who are new to personnel responsibilities, or for employers who want to review their personnel practices. It is the course book for the CIPD's Certificate in Personnel Practice Course.

Anyone who wants a good working knowledge of personnel management will find this book meets their needs.
