All you need to know about Jungian Typology,
By
This review is from: Personality Types: Jung's Model of Typology (Studies in Jungian psychology by Jungian analysts) (Paperback)
I came to this book as it was a recommended text on a counselling/psychotherapy course. It helped many of us complete our essays, providing a succinct overview of the subject, useful for both the beginner and more advanced students.Jung is well known for introducing the terms introvert and extrovert into psychology. It has become the basis of the Myers-Briggs typologoies used by industry to assess personalities, and has even been used by psychologists like Eysenck who are otherwise less sympathetic to his approach. The typology is, in fact, more detailed than just these two terms, having four functions which individuals use to relate to the world. Each of these can which can be either introverted or extroverted, thus there are eight basic types. These are all explained in detail in this book. These ideas have been well explained in other popularizations of Jung's own work, but perhaps not in as much detail. This book also provides a wider range of detail as to how the functions interact with each other in individuals determining their attitude to the world, in relationships with other people, and how this theory might be used in a therapeutic situation. Of course, Jung's own magnum opus on the subject, Psychological Types (Collected Works of C.G. Jung), remains available for those wanting to explore what he said on the subject. This can be difficult reading for those unfamiliar with his style, not least because of the overwhealming quantity of references he throws in. Sharp's book serves either as a substitute for, or an introduction to, that longer work. All in all an excellent overview of the Jungian type theory. The prime recommendation for the subject. Well written in an informal and engaging style.

Daryl Sharp's 'Personality Types' is an excellent way of being introduced to C.G. Jung's Model of Typology. A brief list of areas explored include, the two personality attitudes - Introversion and Extroversion - and four functions or modes of orientation -Thinking - Intuition - Sensation - Feeling.
I once attended a workshop where we, the participants, had previously undergone a few psychological test, including the Jung-Myers-Briggs typology test. In this workshop, we were separated into small groups of 4 or 5 people, all of different typologies, and we were given quite simple tasks to be completed as a group. Well, you would have thought these tasks to be simple, but given the diversity in our personality types, many of the groups performed quite poorly in accomplishing their goal and a few even outright failed, with one person stomping out of the room in tears. If you deal with groups, in business or elsewhere -- I suppose that we all deal with groups filled with different personality types, the first being our family -- then I highly recommend Daryl Sharp's 'Personality Types' to gain basic insights into how and why people are moved to act and react in a host of different fashions. 0 of 5 people found the following review helpful:

Just Jung,
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Personality Types: Jung's Model of Typology (Studies in Jungian psychology by Jungian analysts) (Paperback)
Nothing new is added to Jung's premises but they are put forth in clear concise language. This book sticks solely to Jung's ideas. I would have liked a bit more input from the author. Perhaps I should give this book 4 stars because it does what it sets out to do, but you may be able to find better. Books I've read by Loomis and Van Fronz(based on a lecture) describe the types clearly and add a bit to it.
