Extremely useful reference tool 30 Dec 2011
By Sam H. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I finished my NASM CPT course and saw Joe posting on Personal Trainer forums giving great advice, so I decided to plunge into his book.

The information is great, and he goes in depth on some topics that NASM left me a bit uncertain on. Quite a bit of the information was redundant from my prior studying, but it's written plainly and easily usable as a quick reference.

There's a chapter on proper exercise form and machine setup that covers essentially any apparatus in the gym. The book also has a slew of easily performed performance and assessment tests, as well as explained methodology for interpreting the results.

The final chapter, on special populations, provides tons of practical for working with people with specialized needs, and it's all easily digestible.

In total, the book was helpful, but more useful as a quick reference tool than providing a lot of new information.

Once again Joe has brought his unique, straight forward and no nonsense approach in creating a fitness training book for everyone to read and understand. It is an "all-in-one" approach with creating specific workout programs from the beginner to the seasoned fitness individual. Joe sets forth guidelines and helpful information for individuals with special needs, i.e., diabetes, osteoporosis, pregnancy, and frail elderly people. Joe's books are jammed packed with valuable, scientific based research and information. A must have for your fitness training library.
