Product Description
Walter (Ashton Kutcher) is a rising star in the NCAA wrestling world until his life is ripped apart by the brutal murder of his sister. Returning home to console his mother Gloria (Kathy Bates) he seeks vengeance on the man who is accused of the crime. A chance meeting with a beautiful mature woman (Michelle Pfeiffer) gives him solace to the situation. Will this unlikely pairing bloom into a romance and heal a wound the world cannot see or will the loss of his sister push him over the edge?

Bought this after reading the previous reviews but I was disappointed. It wasn't quite the romance film that I was expecting. It was a very bleak, depressing and intense. I managed to watch the film to the end but my other half described it as 'watching paint dry' after half an hour. Despite a high-class cast and brilliant acting, the storyline was very slow and didn't grip my attention as I had hoped.

I must say, somewhat suprisingly, that I enjoyed this film, it won't be to everyone's taste but worth a watch. Kutcher was better than expected, moving away from his comedy roles in this one. Pfieffer was excellent, but then again she rarely makes a bad movie anyway.
Give it a try on a wet winter weekend with a takeaway you might enjoy it as well.

This story of love and loss is brought to the screen by writer director David Hollander, who brings together a couple who meet at a support group and are drawn to each other because of similar experiences in the process of getting to know each other they make each other's lives better, Michelle Pfeiffer (Linda) heads up the cast supported by Ashton Kutcher(Walter) and holding it all together the acting veteran Kathy Bates who plays Walters Mother Gloria.
The May to December relationship in this movie is not miles away from Kutcher real life situation possibility why the on screen chemistry between himself and Pfeiffer works so well and instead of the knock-about roles of his past films Kutcher delivers a believable performance of the strong silent type that the Walter Character is who is raging with anger inside that without his physical outlet would explode and ruin his life but the connection he makes with Linda's son Clay not only redeems him but the young boy from a shared interest
The pace of this film for some would be a bit slow but if you like adult entertainment that has a story with depth and not the instant gratification of a summer blockbuster give this excellent film a try.
The DVD is in 1.85:1 (full frame) aspect and the atmospheric 5.1 surround track delivers a very pleasing effect to the film experience.
