True inspiration from a true inspiration

"…vibrant and instructional ... fresh, original and devoid of the usual sound bites and transatlantic psychobabble of many books of this genre..."

This is not normally the sort of book that I would read, so I had no pre-conceived ideas about it's content.
From the interesting, eye catching cover to the inside, where you will find a very comfortable, easy on the eye typeface, printed on a very good quality paper. A pleasant surprise, as most paperbacks are not such good quality.

I find the book to be a combination of autobiography and life self help text book. There is a "What If" chapter which gives the reader a brief history of the author from 1985 to today. This is an important part of the book so as to set the scene as to why the author has written this book and it shows the reader why he can help the rest of us. There follows 11 Chapters covering Living Proactively, Personal Responsibility, Goal Setting, Motivation, Teamwork, Communication, Adversity, Role Models, Prejudice, What Does Success Look Like, Resilience. There is something for everyone to take away and to use for life improvement.

Throughout the book there is the account of Marc Woods life experiences and his come back from the amputation of his leg, cancer treatment, the death of his father and his progress to becoming a gold medal Paralympian - all achieved through Marc's courage, determination and commitment. Mixed in with this are quotes from other informed people and the self help instruction and advice for the reader.

There is a lot of useful and helpful information throughout the book, as well as being an intersting read about a very brave and courageous young man.

Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Many of us moan and complain and have a negative frame of mind which holds us back, but this book will help you if you need that kick up the backside to achieve something!

Marc Woods has a career as a motivational speaker and author having overcoming some life challenges He has had his left leg amputated because of cancer when he was seventeen and the day after he had his stitches out he went swimming and within a year he was swimming quicker with one leg then he did when he had two. His dream was to simply be the best that he could be and just 18 months after he finished his chemotherapy he was selected to represent Great Britain.

He has now retired from swimming having competed internationally for 17 years, winning 12 Paralympic medals from 5 Games and a further 21 from either World or European Championships.

Marc's book is a refreshing chnage from similar genres which focus on improving yourself for business and financial gain. The book is easy reading and draws on personal experience and motivational stories together with the odd quote from well known guru's but it's Marc's story for getting on with it that is bulk of the book. His own motivation to get up in freezing weather, tired and cold to ensure he gets his training done is an example of his dedication and the book takes through many examples of his courage and how to get the best out of himself.

The book is broken into chapters including your personal repsonsibility, goals, motivation, teamwork, adversity etc and is an interesting and inspirational read that is both uplifting and admirable.

From One Who Knows 17 Feb 2012
By J. Pittam VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Marc Woods was diagnosed with Cancer whilst in his teens and had to have his leg amputated. Instead of letting this experience blight his life, he went on to become a five-time Paralympian and multiple Gold Medallist. 'Personal Best' tells the secrets of his success. There are sections on mental strength and determination, fear as motivator, encouraging feedback, the science of stress and 'that little bit extra'. It has a really fun cover and is written in an engaging way, very clear and easy to understand.

Suitable as a starter manual in self development, because it takes the concepts involved and explains them in accessible and inspiring language. Suitable for those with visual impairment - lovely clear font and layout, plus a very jolly cover.
