OK he's a lawyer and not a cowboy but he always wins (just like the Lone Ranger). The second series of the Perry Mason cases is as good as the first. Very clear black and white images, good sound and overall excellent quality and features (subtitles etc). Of course, there's a lot of nostalgia attached to the series, and, I have to say it's even better now on a large modern screen than on the 17 inch screen we had in the 1960's. When you look at more recent police/lawyer series, you can see how much they derive from Perry Mason and, of course, the acting (mainly Raymond Burr but his loyal sidekicks and adversaries too) is suberb and not nearly as dated as you might imagine after 50 odd years. Entirely satisfied with the purchase and looking forward to more series to come on region 2 DVD.

These Perry Mason series are totally absorbing. I had forgotten how good they were and the author's craftsmanship and control really shows through. The acting too is subtle, with gestures and glances completely in keeping with the way people would respond in real life ie not for cinematic effect. Unusually each episode is 53 minutes long and with a large number of episodes in each series its really good value viewing. I can't wait for series 3 and 4 to be released over here - they are already available in the US. Its fascinating too to see the location shots for the real view of California in the late 1950's and not a recreation.
Did you know that the actors playing Mason and Burger originally auditioned for each other's role but Erle Stanley Gardner insisted that they be switched? What a wise move that proved to be and one which has given us so much entertainment.

Intelligent, family entertainment; in the proper sense, in which adults do not feel insulted,eg Disney.
Plots with ingenious twists. No fistfights or car chases. No graphic,sick content. Very good picture quality and neatly packaged. I shall buy all these older series.

Perry Mason Season 2
I bought this for a friend who hasn't got a computer. He is very happy with this dvd as he loved the Perry Mason series when it was first on tv.

Which languages? which sub-titles?
The soundtrack is in English and French; sub-titles are English for the hearing impaired, English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, Norwegian and Swedish.

Brilliant 1950 entertainment
Although it was produced 50 years ago it is still a very good series with well formed characters.
