Although the style and layout of this book is no different from most tab books from Hal Leonard, the sheer scale and accuracy involved in the making of this particular tab book is most commendable.
Obviously looking on tab sites is the cheaper option (considering it's mostly free) but the tabs you get on those sites are far from the real thing, proven by the detailed accuracy of all 28 tabs in this book.
The CDs that come with the book are fantastic. Hal Leonard have managed to get the original guitar and bass tracks from the actual album. The removal of the drum and vocal tracks enable you to hear each distinct note, making it much easier especially to learn the strumming patterns instead of having to rely entirely upon the tab. Also you get to hear things you'd never heard on the real album (inparticular in the instrumental section of 'Hump de Bump').
The only thing preventing me from giving this a five star rating is that the CDs do not have much of an aid for relalively inexperienced guitarists. Although I have played guitar for 8 years now, it would have been better to have tracks where the more intricate riffs would have been slowed down (e.g. 21st Century and Turn It Again solos) to allow for a more approachable learning curve. No doubt the addition of the CDs is a good idea, but perhaps they could have done more than just copy and paste the guitar/bass tracks over?
Nevertheless this is the definitive tab book for the Stadium Arcadium album. If you're a fan of the Chilis and want to learn the ways of John Frusciante then you should definitely buy this.
Easily the best tab book I have, and trust me I have plenty. Extremely accurate tab for every track on the S/A album. Every slide in every solo and every background part is tabbed with every minor change noted. There is even the odd bass line transcribed for guitar also (torture me, hey) as if it wasn't already awesome enough!
What's particularly great about this is that it captures John's style perfectly also which is uncommon in tab books now a days. Someone complained that there were easier ways to play certain chords which is, of course true, but this book plays them how John does and thats how it should. Even without the cds this is sooo good only problem is that some stuff is pretty hard particularly the long solos ah well greatness takes time to reach :P
So buy it and if your one of those peppers haters then you cant say its because of John's playing because as this book shows-there is nothing wrong with John's playing :)
A very basic review but: This tab book is fantastic! The entire book is laid out in easy to read tab with all the songs from the double album. It comes with 2 cd's with the guitar and bass tracks which help a lot when trying to figure out the complicated licks that John Frusciante uses! The album has very challenging songs that some including myself will struggle with but the classics like "Dani California" (except the last section of the solo, don't even know how they tabbed that out!) and "Tell Me Baby" are more than doable! This is a great book and well worth the money if you love the album and the chili's :)
