Product Description

Product Description

Virginia Satir helped to create family therapy training and this is her classic book for families about families. It takes a special kind of understanding within families to resolve arguments and prevent unhappiness and Satir explains how to attain it. This accessible book demonstrates how to make relationships work, how to take the feelings of every member of the family into account and how to escape the stereotypes of family organisation. Dealing with families with separated parents and single parent families, it can create a basis for a liberating environment where all members of the family can develop.

About the Author

Viriginia Satir was a noted psychotherapist, specialising in family therapy. She co-founded the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, California and created the first family therapy programme there.

Satir has a very no nonsense approach to family therapy and uses her common sense to make what can be potentially difficult areas for families to deal with easy to understand. Although this is more of a therapy text book I would be quite happy to recommend it to families who are having difficulties to use themselves. It sets out problem solving techniques and ideas to get the dynamics of the family flowing again and nowhere does it apportion blame.

Some books change your life slowly, some books change your life straight away and some books are... Well just books...

This book will change your life in less than an hour because once you pick it up you won't want to put it down.

Everyone is interested in how we turn out the way we are and Virginia Satir goes quite a way to explain this. She was one of the worlds finest psychotherapists and lots of people use her ideas and maybe not know she should be credited with them.

NLP - which is quite well known uses lots of her stuff and also mentions her as one of the influences - so well done Richard Bandler and John Grinder for helping to spread the wonderful inventiveness of Virginia Satir.

It is full of nice examples and questions that are really thought provoking and also helpful...

Really, really easy to read book that is full of great information.
