Dr. Noah Praetorius (Cary Grant) a doctor and teacher believes in holistic medicine and uses unconventional ways. A fellow doctor and teacher (Hume Cronyn) has a nasty attitude and is jealous, so he plans to take Praetorius down a notch. Mean while back at the ranch Dr. Praetorious is getting romanticlay involved with a young student that has a problem that she can not reveal to her father.

Mr. Shunderson is a mysterious person from Noah’s past. You may think that Shunderson "the bat" is scary.

This movie is a remake of "Frauenarzt Dr. Prätorius" (1950). Luckily it is much better than the original. Watching the train scene made me want to go "beep beep" or was that "beep beep beep?" This is one of those movies that just works. You can not pull it apart as each actor was excellent for his or her character. The music they played was Brahms’ "Academic festival overture" what else would you play for this sort of movie?

See Julia Dean "Old Woman" (who tell the tale of Doc Praetorious) again as Julia Farren in "The Curse of the Cat People"

This is NOT your average Hollywood fare, but a very strange film indeed. Cary Grant is famous gynecologist who marries a pregnant student of his, Jeanne Crain, lying to her about her condition until they are married, for reasons that are never quite clear. Then he is investigated by his peers who suspect sinister goings-on in his past, concerning not least his slow-witted butler.

Mankiewicz' biggest shortcoming was always his chattiness, even in so fine a film as 'All About Eve'. A lot of talk goes on in 'People Will Talk' and far from all of it is too the point, but rather strives to give well-meaning lectures on how to live your life, a badly-disguised jab, it seems, at the conformity and blatant anti-Communism in America in those years. It's certainly all very entertaining, but Mankiewicz loses dramatic focus at every turn as the characters leap in all directions.

Don't go to this film in your search for forgotten masterpieces, but watch it for delicious performances by Grant and Walter Slezak and Evil Über-Doctor Hume Cronyn.

Just simply a wonderful way to spend an hour and a half or so. I suppose the phrase is "They don't make them like that any more", and they don't, but they should. Various emotions explored but always with a soft underlying humour, a brilliantly acted traditional Cary Grant style movie.
