My daughter and I love books. We love reading them , collecting them and discussing them. We also love to return to them, to revisit them as it were. This book fills us both with joy. It is beautifully made, stunningly designed and illustrated and has immediately become a favourite within our grwoing library. This Christmas it was easily one of her favourite gifts and also confidnetaly one of my best gifts to her. Its simplicity is obvious but the one word illustrations are amazingly thought provoking and have engineered many great discussions about, well about people. It would make a strong addition to any library; young or old and I would recommend that all parents and booklovers purchase one for theior collection. Wonderful.

A beautiful art book

I just wanted to add my two cents since the only current review is a negative one. I don't see this as necessarily a children's book, but a fascinating artist book with beautiful and enigmatic images. Having said that, my four-year-old daughter and I do love to look at it together, and it sparks lots of conversation as we discuss the meanings of the images and create our own stories to accompany them. I have not seen the Seasons book yet, so I can't compare the two, but I really like People. However, my daughter is not daunted by strange or dark imagery, and she and I discuss those topics as they come up. Other kids and parents may not enjoy sharing this book, but I think there are many artists and art lovers who should have this one in their collection!

Warning: May Not Be For Everyone

As an adult, I loved this book. Each page has a beautiful, artistic illustration on it with a single word description. The nostalgic style of the illustrations is a refreshing change from most contemporary children's books.
When read through the book, you'll notice an association between the figures on the pages. For example, on the left page will be an illustration of a man looking through a microscope with the word BIOLOGIST, while on the right page there will be an illustration of a man looking though a giant telescope with the word ASTRONOMER. Initially the associations are easy and obvious, but as you progress they begin to become more complex.
As a parent, I still love the book, but I can see how others might be hesitant. There are illustrations that other parents might be uncomfortable explaining to their young children. For example: CORPSE, AMPUTEE, EXECUTIONER.
Every parenting style is different, but I will have no problem trying my best to explain these figures to my daughter when the time comes.

An enormous, 100+ page book of drawings of people. Bachelors and babies. Friends and foes. Biologists and astronomers. All kinds of people. Here together in the same enormous book. Happily together in the same enormous book.
